Happy Thursday, Carson City. If you need a reason to get out of the house, look no further. Learn something new at one of the lectures tonight: Nicholas Clapp, author of ‘Dancing with the Devil: Virginia City’ at the Gold Hill Hotel or head to the Nevada State Museum to learn about the first fabricator of Levi’s jeans, Nevada’s own J.W. Davis. Take in some amazing views with Muscle Powered as they hike the Pine Nut Mountains. The talented band students from throughout the district come together tonight at Band-o-Rama in the Carson High School Gym. Read the whole list and find your fun.

A gorgeous day awaits. Take advantage of the sunshine with a lunchtime walk along the Carson Tahoe Wellness Trail. Michael Saloga is the presenter at this month’s Soup’s On! luncheon sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and will discuss how to raise the bar in 2016. If you’d prefer to raise a glass, head to the Firkin and Fox for their Founder’s Brewery Tap Takeover and try a new beer. Humphrey Bogart plays Sam Spade in the Maltese Falcon: catch this black and white classic on the big screen today at the Galaxy Theater.

We’ve all felt the occasional urge to ride off into the sunset, but it was those Pony Express boys that actually did it. Learn about their history from the Pony Express Association at Red’s Old 395. An informative talk at the Carson City Library sheds some light on why life is so crazy. If you’ve always wanted to learn to play with fire, then check out Controlled Burn. This regional fire spinning group will show you the ropes at A to Zen.

This week's It's Your City with host Cortney Bloomer features guest Kyle Horvath, board president of the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.

In the video below, Horvath discusses this Saturday's Wine, Spirits and All That Jazz, Carson City's premier red carpet event for arts, music and dance lovers, which will be held across the entire Brewery Arts Center campus in Carson City.

Sunday fun includes the Carson Victory Roller’s My Bloody Valentine Scrimmage to benefit CASI and the Nevada Humane Society. Celebrate the Asian New Year with crafts and music at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada. As suddenly as it appeared, the snow has melted from the roads, leaving no excuses for not hitting the town. Friday has arrived and with it some great live music. Live it up at Living the Good Life with Monique and Friends. Stereo Galaxy will be getting the party started downtown at Westside Pour House. Or check out Chicken Fried at Mystique. If you’re a performer yourself, then A to Zen’s open mic might be your style. Dancers will want to strut their stuff at the monthly World Dance Open Floor at Comma Coffee. Release your inner rock star with karaoke at Carson Lanes or Whiskey Tavern.

The International Film Weekend has returned for the third year and brings a bit of multiculturalism with it. Spend the afternoon in Marlette Hall at Western Nevada College to see what some local filmmakers have created, and then head over to the Community Center for tonight’s film ‘Cherry Blossoms.’ This is a free event and just gets bigger and better. Check out the Career Expo highlighting the Career and Technical Education program at Carson High; it’s open to the public and students. Take a gander at the list for all of today’s options.

Capital City Arts Initiative brings back it’s Nevada Neighbors Series with a talk by artist Zoe Bray inside the former BRIC building on East Proctor Street.

Austin’s House invites you to the eighth annual Cowboy Mardi Gras fundraiser on Friday, Feb. 26 at the Carson Valley Inn from 6 to 10 p.m. Put on your jeans and cowboy hat to celebrate the party atmosphere of Bourbon Street in New Orleans on Fat Tuesday. This casual and crazy fundraiser features great food, music, dancing, raffle prizes, and silent auction.

Carol asked me recently “Are there any flowers that deer won’t eat?” This is a question I am asked repeatedly. Are there any deer resistant plants? Well, it depends. A sufficiently hungry deer will find almost any plant palatable.

It’s Presidents Day weekend with a Valentine’s Day cherry on top. There is still time for some shopping if you’re looking for something for your special someone. Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery hosts its annual Champagne and Jewelry party Saturday and offers some amazing hand-crafted bling for your sweetheart. Carson Mall is another great bet for last minute gifts. Several crafters, vendors, and shops make it easy to find something unique. The annual Feast of Chocolate returns to the Plaza Event Center; raising funds for scholarships has never tasted so good.

It's time to kick off this three-day weekend. Satiate your sweet tooth at the Boys and Girls Club; high school senior Larrissa Cruzan has organized a bake sale. Head downtown to check out the Grand Opening reception at Charlie B Gallery on West Telegraph. Stick around for the great band playing at Westside Pour House or have some dinner at one the nearby restaurants. Party Mardi Gras style at Remedy’s and wear something black light reactive.

As the planning season for gardening begins, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and their Certified Master Gardeners offer a chance to help you get the most out of your garden.

Cooperative Extension has teamed up with Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space to offer “Gardening in Nevada: The Bartley Ranch Series.” Classes are free and run 6 – 8 p.m. every Tuesday through March 29, at Bartley Ranch Regional Park, 6000 Bartley Ranch Road in Reno.

Please join CASI for a purr-fect evening of wine tasting and appetizers in the beautiful Governor's Mansion on Friday, March 11th from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

This wildly popular annual dinner supports the St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School in Carson City, educating kids in grades K-8 and providing preschool and pre-K programs in its Child Development Center.

After last month's cloudy and cold wine walk, participants enjoyed warmer temperatures and downtown Carson City businesses were eager to please the bigger pre-Valentine's Day crowd Saturday.

Okay all you procrastinators, if you planned on making it to the Arlington Square Ice Rink, then today is your last chance. With a temperature around 50, it should be a perfect day to skate one last time. Show some Senator Pride tonight at the Community Center as 24 seniors compete for ‘Mr. Carson High.’ There’s a lot going on this weekend, so take a look at the list and go have some fun.

Join your friends and neighbors downtown as more than 30 shops, restaurants, businesses, and organizations stock up on wine and goodies and throw open their doors for the Downtown Business Association Wine Walk. Valentine’s Day is just a week away, and this is the perfect opportunity to find a one of a kind gift for your one of a kind sweetheart. The day is predicted to be sunny around 50 degrees, so it won’t be anything we can’t handle. You'll have until 5 p.m. to hit as many stops as possible before the raffle begins.

The Nevada Day Store and Trading Post features many fine art Photographers and this Saturday we are showcasing some of “The Shadow and Light Photographers” beautiful work.

This group was started by Fine Art Photographer, Dennis Doyle on Facebook. It is giving photographers of every level a place where all can share their work and learn from one another. They post and share and when asked, constructive criticism is also given and appreciated.

I’m a sucker for old movies. Give me some Garbo, Monroe, Gene Kelly, or comedic Danny Kay and I’m a happy girl. The Carson City Classic Cinema Club brings a different old movie to a big screen once a month and raises money to bring the arts to kids. Check out this month’s selection ‘Penny Serenade’ in the comfy chairs of the Brewery Art Center’s Performance Hall.
