Boys and Girls Club to honor Youth of the Year at Governor's Mansion in Carson City
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada (BGCWN) will announce its Western Nevada Youth of the Year Award recipient Thursday, Jan. 26, in a ceremony at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Community members, outstanding club members and staff will also be recognized at the awards event.
Long-time donor and honoree Mike Tice, offensive line coach for the Oakland Raiders, will be in attendance. The former National Football League tight end who played for the Seattle Seahawks, Washington Redskins and Minnesota Vikings sponsors an annual weekend fundraiser which has raised more than $140,000 for the Boys and Girls Club over the years.
Tice also purchases new shoes for each member of the Carson Valley clubhouse each year.
The member-awarded Youth of the Year selection will go on to compete at the state finals held Feb. 16 at the Governor's Mansion, 606 Mountain Street in Carson City.

This year's Western Nevada Youth of the Year finalists include Mia Liao, 15, Zachary Holmes, 15, Natalie Ontiveros, 15, and Angel Natividad, 14.

The BGCWN has been a cornerstone of the community since opening its doors in 1993, serving around 1,800 area youth. It provides a safe, structured and positive environment for young people after school, during holidays and summer vacation in six locations around Carson City and Douglas County.
