Western Nevada College invites the public to a reception for the final display of its nationally acclaimed traveling arts and humanities exhibition, “Always Lost: A Meditation on War.” The exhibition is in the main art gallery at the WNC Carson City campus, through July 29. WNC is located at 2201 West College Parkway in Carson City.

More United States military veterans will be able to travel to Washington, D.C. because of the proceeds expected from this weekend's regional chili cook-offs held at Glen Eagles Restaurant in north Carson City, Honor Flight Nevada Founder Jon Yuspa said.

Speaker Jim Clark will present his program, “Trains in the Movies”, in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, July 9, at 10:00 am.

Jim Clark is a veteran of more than 250 films, an engineer and a train coordinator. Known as "The Train Man," Clark will give a short history of trains in the movies and explain the technical aspects of working with trains.

The U.S. Navy on Friday accepted delivery of the seventh expeditionary fast transport USNS Carson City during a ceremony held aboard the ship at Austal USA’s shipyard in Mobile, Alabama.

EPF 7 is the second U.S. Navy ship named for the city in Nevada. The first Carson City was designated PF-50 and commissioned March 24, 1944. She was loaned to Japan in 1953 and served for nearly 20 years in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. Carson City received two battle stars for World War II service.

Last weekend the cyclists ruled our city, but now the hot-rodders are king of the road. The Rockabilly Riot is jam-packed with activities all over town: the races and booths at Mills Park; a street dance at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; a tattoo show in the Community Center; a free concert at Gold Dust West; and Burlesque at the Nugget. The Carson City Arts & Culture Coalition will install its Focus on Carson photography banner on the Hop & Mae Adams Foundation construction site fence at Curry and Telegraph streets this Wednesday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m.

The banner displays 20 photographs taken in Carson City by local artists. The public is invited to attend and help hang the banner.

Harry Brown's honest, unsentimental WW2 novel, A Walk in the Sun, has been effectively adapted for the screen by Robert Rossen. Dana Andrews stars as Sgt. Tyne, a platoon squad leader who assumes command of his platoon as they trudge through the Italian countryside in search of a bridge they have been ordered to blow up encountering danger and destruction along the way.

General admission $5; Senior/Student $3; Free for members. Doors open at 6:00pm with trivia and discussion at 6:30pm. The film begins at 7:00pm at The Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street.

Blustery Nevada winds tested the mettle of temporary shelters set up on the tarmac at the Carson City Airport's annual Open House event Saturday, but they did not deter a large crowd of morning visitors who came to partake in the festivities.

Planes, trains, and bicycles are the theme of this Fathers’ Day weekend. Epic Rides has taken over downtown with booths, bikes, beer, music, and more. The Carson City Airport is hosting their annual Fly-in and Open house, complete with hot air balloon rides. Step into the past today: the Pony Express re-ride is coming through town. It’s anticipated around 2 p.m. and you can follow their path online HERE. World War II buffs are going to love the Wings of Freedom tour at the Minden Airport; you have until Sunday afternoon to see the planes. Head to Telegraph Square downtown for the first Community Art Night sponsored by Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery and the Charlie B. Gallery.

Witness living history in motion Thursday afternoon as the Pony Express gallops into the state capital for the commemorative hand-off of the mail-bearing Mochila.

Aviation and aerospace displays, historic aircraft, formation fliers, hot air balloon rides, a pancake breakfast and more will be featured this Saturday at the Carson City Airport Open House.

With well over 6,000 visitors attending last year, this year’s event is expected will be bigger with a bevy of activities including interactive displays, flybys, plane and helicopter demonstrations, drone demonstrations, food and beverages, a bounce house and many family activities.

The Nevada State Fair continues its last day of entertainment, carnival rides, culture and reenactments with Old West gun and cannon fire demonstrations throughout the day.

Veterans organizations and volunteers from the Carson City area placed nearly 1,400 U.S. flags over memorial grave markers Friday afternoon at Lone Mountain Cemetery.

Vietnam veterans groups, Fleet Reserve Association of Sierra Tahoe, the Disabled Veterans of America were joined by NJROTC, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and Elks Lodge. In nearly 30 minutes, all the flags for the ceremony had been distributed and were placed over the markers.

The flag is flying half-staff Friday at the offices of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency in honor of the passing of Coe Swobe, known among many as the “Father of the Tahoe Bi-State Compact.” The former Nevada state senator died Thursday of liver failure at the age of 87.

The Disabled American Veterans and other local veterans organizations from the Carson City area will place 1,200 U.S. flags on veterans graves at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City on Friday, May 27 beginning at 4 p.m.

Other groups will be assisting, including some members of the NJROTC, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and Elks Lodge. Volunteers are welcome to help place flags and youth groups are encouraged and welcomed to participate.
