Focus on Carson photography banner to be installed Wednesday at Curry and Telegraph
The Carson City Arts & Culture Coalition will install its Focus on Carson photography banner on the Hop & Mae Adams Foundation construction site fence at Curry and Telegraph streets this Wednesday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m.
The banner displays 20 photographs taken in Carson City by local artists. The public is invited to attend and help hang the banner.
“I am delighted with the Adams Foundation’s support, with all the entries, and with the chance to make the arts more visible in Carson City," said Project Director Cyndy Brenneman. "We want to make this an annual project, given an available fence and funding.”
The Focus on Carson Photography Contest and Banner, a Coalition project, has been in the making for a year. The contest, open to all Carson City residents, received 53 entries and was juried by Robert Petersen, an award winning photographer and teacher at Western Nevada College, Fallon.
"Petersen is also experienced as a banner artist, and he provided crucial assistance to the project," said Brenneman.
The winners and their photos are: Albert Depew "Nevada’s Capitol," 1st place; Carol Grenier, “Prison Hill Flowers,” 2nd place; and Jenny Haas, “Above Centennial Park,” 3rd place.
Honorable Mentions are: Deanna Hoover, “Jada Lynn”; James Bagwell, “Lompa Ranch Cowboy”; Rebecca LaBranch, “Along Carson River”; Anke Simpson, “Firkin & Fox”; Bob Hickox, “Train Coming Down the Tracks”; and Dana Lee Fruend, “The Naughty Tea Mistresses of Nevada, First Calvary Company D, and The Nevada Civil War Volunteers on the Steps of the Capitol.”
Also on the banner are: Ronni Hannaman, “Wabuska Station at the Railroad Museum”; Brett Fisher, “Field of Pinwheels for Child Abuse Prevention Month”; Kelli Nevills, "Carson River”; Lisa Fisher, “Great Horned Owl at Silver Saddle Ranch”; Harry Meyer, “Ormsby Street”; Jessi Marie Schumann, “Times Change” and Marylou Schindler, “Carson Street Construction.”
The Coaltion's Focus on Carson project was modeled after a national project, "The Fence - an outdoor photography exhibition series" by Photoville, which can be seen online at fence.photoville.com.
