John Doiron, Carson High School’s Career and Technical Education’s new manufacturing instructor, stood in front of the Carson City Area Manufacturers Forum in early June to outline his plan for the manufacturing program and to ask for their support in sharing their knowledge to develop curriculum, being guest speakers in class and inviting students in to their facilities for field trips, internships and other work-based learning experiences.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of July 4-10, 2016. Work will continue on the Downtown Corridor improvement project on Carson Street. The following streets will be impacted:

— Carson Street will remain one lane in each direction.
— Ann and Caroline will be closed to the east to Plaza.
— Spear, Proctor, Telegraph and 2nd will be closed to the west to Curry.
— Downtown and Third Street Businesses are Open During Construction.

Sunday is the day before Independence Day, but Sparks is getting a jump on the festivities with their Star Spangled Sparks Celebration and fireworks. King’s Beach always celebrates early, so you can catch fireworks at the northeast end of Tahoe, as well. Keep reading: the weekend is in full swing.

Summertime in Carson City is now in full stride, the busiest time of the season traditionally marked by the Fourth of July weekend.

Holy moly. Carson City is hopping with fun times for everyone. Enjoy Saturday downtown with the Third and Curry Farmers Market, the Downtown Business Association Wine Walk, and a free concert at the Brewery Arts Center. Mills Park features the return of the RSVP Carnival with rides, food, booths, games, and more.

Welcome to July, Carson City. How do you want to start out the month? For some laughs, head to Carson Comedy in the Nugget Casino or Improv Night at the Brewery Arts Center. Take the kids to Carson Hot Springs: free admission for those under 18 today. Break a leg, Wild Horse Children’s Theater. Aladdin Jr. opens tonight at the Carson City Community Center. Mills Park is home to a carnival for the long weekend, so grab yourself a funnel cake or a spin on the Ferris Wheel tonight until 10 p.m.

The Fourth of July holiday period is the busiest time of year in the Lake Tahoe Basin. For those visiting during the holiday and attending one of the firework displays over the lake, expect extremely crowded conditions and excess traffic.

Last weekend the cyclists ruled our city, but now the hot-rodders are king of the road. The Rockabilly Riot is jam-packed with activities all over town: the races and booths at Mills Park; a street dance at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; a tattoo show in the Community Center; a free concert at Gold Dust West; and Burlesque at the Nugget. Don’t think that’s all our valley has to offer, though, keep reading for all this weekend’s fun.

The Virginia & Truckee Railroad is running full steam ahead this summer with more reasons to explore the Silver State’s ultimate Old West steam train ride through historic Comstock country with new railroad adventures designed for Nevada residents and young train enthusiasts.

Happy Fathers’ Day Carson City. The Reno Rodeo is a great way to spend the day with your progeny. The Pow Wow continues at the Stewart Indian School, and Epic Rides is still downtown. Enjoy an afternoon at the golf course: a free family golf clinic is at Eagle Valley. Head to Heritage Park in Gardnerville for a car show celebrating the Great Race.

Planes, trains, and bicycles are the theme of this Fathers’ Day weekend. Epic Rides has taken over downtown with booths, bikes, beer, music, and more. The Carson City Airport is hosting their annual Fly-in and Open house, complete with hot air balloon rides. World War II aviation buffs won’t want to miss the Wings of Freedom tour at the Minden Airport. Steampunk meets Steam trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum. A 56-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of felony grand larceny after allegedly stealing a green dolly from Tractor Supply Company, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Three days of thrill-seeking, mountain biking adventure and plenty of capital city hospitality and entertainment will kick off the inaugural Carson City Off-Road Epic Ride series beginning Friday and lasting through the weekend.

Hello fellow anglers. We have had two successful kids fishing derbys in our area. The Lampe Park Kids Derby had 1,300 children attend this year and last Saturday was the Alpine County Kids Fishing derby at Indian Creek.

My hat is off to all the volunteers that came together to make this such a successful and fun event. Now it is time for the kids to take dad fishing. Father's Day is this Sunday and what better way to give back than to take your dad fishing. These events are the reason that most kids get hooked on fishing.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of June 13-19, 2016: Epic Rides, a nationally known endurance bike ride will be held in Carson City on June 17th through the 19th. There will be significant impacts to traffic on Carson Street and west of downtown.

UPDATE 8:26PM: A Carson City man is in custody after attempting to beat his mother to death Tuesday afternoon at an Arrowhead Drive home, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

Douglas Taladay, 40, is in custody at Carson City Jail and faces charges of attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, elderly enhancement and preventing a victim from calling 911. His bail is set at $500,000. Taladay admitted the crimes to investigators, said Furlong.

Crowds turned out Sunday to see vintage trains up close and experience local history in action at the Nevada State Railroad Museum off South Carson Street in Carson City.

Visitors were treated to rides aboard V&T Engine No. 25 of the original Virginia and Truckee Railroad line, as well as the Glennbrook Engine originally of the Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Fluming Company and later the Lake Tahoe Railway & Transportation Company.

Visitors to the Nevada State Railroad Museum on Memorial Day weekend will see the fully restored 1875 locomotive Glenbrook under steam for public viewing and can take a ride on the steam train pulled by the Virginia & Truckee locomotive No. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and Monday.

Midnight Madness has descended upon the valley, bringing with it a 72 hour softball tournament at Centennial Park. Don’t be surprised to see more cyclists on the road: an unofficial pre-ride for Epic Rides is this weekend. Head to the Nevada State Railroad Museum to see the Glenbrook all steamed up. The Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] announces its exhibition, New Crop 2016, by five artists from Sierra Nevada College and the University of Nevada Reno at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Friday, June 3, 5-7pm and the artists will give brief talks about their work at 5:30pm. The show will be open to the public Monday – Friday, 8am -5pm from June 3 – September 29, 2016. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The reception and the exhibition are free.
