Carson High School CTE’s new manufacturing instructor works with area manufacturers
Submitted by editor on Tue, 07/05/2016 - 10:58amJohn Doiron, Carson High School’s Career and Technical Education’s new manufacturing instructor, stood in front of the Carson City Area Manufacturers Forum in early June to outline his plan for the manufacturing program and to ask for their support in sharing their knowledge to develop curriculum, being guest speakers in class and inviting students in to their facilities for field trips, internships and other work-based learning experiences.

— Carson Street will remain one lane in each direction.
— Ann and Caroline will be closed to the east to Plaza.
— Spear, Proctor, Telegraph and 2nd will be closed to the west to Curry.
— Downtown and Third Street Businesses are Open During Construction.

For some laughs, head to Carson Comedy in the Nugget Casino or Improv Night at the Brewery Arts Center. Take the kids to Carson Hot Springs: free admission for those under 18 today. Break a leg, Wild Horse Children’s Theater. Aladdin Jr. opens tonight at the Carson City Community Center. Mills Park is home to a carnival for the long weekend, so grab yourself a funnel cake or a spin on the Ferris Wheel tonight until 10 p.m.

My hat is off to all the volunteers that came together to make this such a successful and fun event. Now it is time for the kids to take dad fishing. Father's Day is this Sunday and what better way to give back than to take your dad fishing. These events are the reason that most kids get hooked on fishing.

Elderly woman beaten at north Carson City home, son in custody
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 06/07/2016 - 5:08pmUPDATE 8:26PM: A Carson City man is in custody after attempting to beat his mother to death Tuesday afternoon at an Arrowhead Drive home, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said.
Douglas Taladay, 40, is in custody at Carson City Jail and faces charges of attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, elderly enhancement and preventing a victim from calling 911. His bail is set at $500,000. Taladay admitted the crimes to investigators, said Furlong.

Visitors were treated to rides aboard V&T Engine No. 25 of the original Virginia and Truckee Railroad line, as well as the Glennbrook Engine originally of the Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Fluming Company and later the Lake Tahoe Railway & Transportation Company.
Memorial Day weekend fun continues at Carson City's Nevada State Railroad Museum

CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Friday, June 3, 5-7pm and the artists will give brief talks about their work at 5:30pm. The show will be open to the public Monday – Friday, 8am -5pm from June 3 – September 29, 2016. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The reception and the exhibition are free.
