Elderly woman beaten at north Carson City home, son in custody
UPDATE 8:26PM: A Carson City man is in custody after attempting to beat his mother to death Tuesday afternoon at an Arrowhead Drive home, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said.
Douglas Taladay, 40, is in custody at Carson City Jail and faces charges of attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, elderly enhancement and preventing a victim from calling 911. His bail is set at $500,000. Taladay admitted the crimes to investigators, said Furlong.
Although the victim's condition is not immediately known, her injuries are not presently considered life threatening, said Furlong.
At 4:25 p.m., the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported domestic battery in the 800 block of Arrowhead Drive in North Carson City. Arriving deputies made contact with the 65-year-old victim, who reported that her son had beaten her and was trying to kill her.
She told officers that Taladay was off his medications and had beaten her with his fists, then retrieved a set of nunchucks and struck her several times while trying to kill her. The victim was able to calm her son long enough to get away from him and secretly call 911. When he found out she called 911, he forcefully took the phone from her.
Paramedics arrived. Due to call volumes, Care Flight was not immediately available, so the victim was urgently transported to Renown Medical Center by ground ambulance.
Taladay was taken into custody at the scene without incident. He was interviewed by detectives and has admitted that he and his mother had argued over yard chores earlier.
As a result of their argument, Taladay admitted that he became angry and beat his mother with his fists with the intent to kill her. When he realized the difficulty, he retrieved his nunchucks and beat her further, said Furlong.

An elderly woman was taken to a Reno hospital and her son is in custody after a domestic battery that happened late Tuesday afternoon in the 800 block of Arrowhead Drive, a Carson City Sheriff's Office lieutenant said.
Deputies were called to a home at around 4:30 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from the residence. The victim is an elderly woman and the suspect is her son, said Lt. Brian Humphrey.
A Care Flight helicopter was ordered but because it was coming from the Truckee area, Carson City Fire Department emergency personnel decided — due to response time — to take the woman by ambulance instead. She was taken to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno.
The extent of the victim’s injuries are unknown at this time. Detectives and a crime lab have arrived at the scene and are investigating, said Humphrey.
