GENOA, Nev. — Mormon Station State Historic Park is offering a number of exciting interpretive programs this June. Join park staff in the heart of the Genoa National Historic District for history talks, cooking classes, guided walks, and children’s arts and crafts activities.

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. — Fort Churchill State Historic Park is offering a variety of ranger-led programs during the month of June. Events highlight the area’s rich history and abundant natural resources. Among the activities are:

CARSON CITY — Thirty-four juniors and seniors from Carson High School were honored at Nevada Governor’s Mansion last Tuesday evening for their efforts in a university level introductory education course. In partnership with the College of Education at the University of Nevada - Reno, CHS offers the EDU 110 course for students interested in pursuing a teaching career.

But maybe mother nature is just trying to add a little extra water to the lakes and rivers before shutting down for a hot summer? On the docket today we have a pollinator garden site work day, the final performance of Western Nevada Musical Theatre's "Crazy for You" and a National Adoption Weekend event at Petsmart with Res-Que, so stop by and give those pups a snuggle!

Heading into Saturday, May 18, 2019 we say welcome to the weekend Carson City. Activities abound throughout the region. Bring an umbrella as the forecast calls for some showers. But above all, enjoy the events and activities lined up in Carson City, Carson Valley, Mound House, Silver City, Virginia City and Dayton areas.

Elementary schools in the Carson City School District will host individual school site welcome events for all transitioning preschoolers and incoming kindergarteners. The events are designed for students and parents to tour their new school, meet teachers and administrators and build on the fun and excitement about going to school.

Bowers Mansion Regional Park will kick off its 2019 tour season with a Civil War reenactment this Saturday, May 18, followed by the first Programs on the Porch on May 24.

Hosted by Bowers Mansion Regional Park and Washoe County Parks and Open Space, the event is sure to be a blast, and not just because cannons were definitely a part of the civil war.

Whether you like your chili hot, spicy or mild, you can bet the beer will be icy cold at this weekend's 36th annual Chili on The Comstock in Virginia City.

Chili and beer lovers will again unite on the Comstock this Saturday and Sunday to taste chili samples from award-winning cooks hailing from all over the west coast, while sipping local brews during the all-new Craft Beer Tour, featuring some of Virginia City's local breweries and craft beers.

Carson City’s two state museums — the Nevada State Museum and Nevada State Railroad Museum — are collaborating on a project that highlights of 150-year-old artifacts in both museums’ collections.

On Saturday, May 25, starting at 9:00 in front of the Capitol building on North Carson Street, the Carson City Historical Society will be offering a 90-minute walking tour to view historic sites east of N. Carson Street, starting with the Capitol Mall area.

Sites will include the Capitol and the Capitol Mall, the Charles Friend Park, the historic area called Chinatown, the old Armory, the site of the former Nevada Orphans Home, the early racetrack and location of the Corbett-Fitzsimmons fight, and more.

CARSON CITY – Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation (AADF), a Carson City-based nonprofit that honors U.S. military veterans with free Dream Flights, is adding a re-stored 1943 Stearman biplane to its fleet, thanks to the fundraising efforts of a local community in Wisconsin.

The weekend is at our doorstep as we head into Friday, May 10, 2019. Even though forecasters say we may have showers this weekend, the cool spring rain won't dampen the fun. We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

As the sun is starting to emerge in Carson City, so too are the bicycles. “I’m already hearing from people that they’re getting their bikes out of the garage,” said Randy Gaa, president of Muscle Powered, the nonprofit organization dedicated to a walkable and bikeable community.

What a week it was Carson City, and it isn't even over yet. Heading into Friday, May 3, 2019, we're looking at continued sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s. There's a host of activities Friday and, looking ahead, a bevy of fun Saturday including a Mother's Day craft fair at the Carson City Community Center, a Star Wars themed bicycle safety day, a wine, cheese and dessert ride aboard the V&T, an early opening of the downtown farmer's market, the May Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, a memorial walk, presentations, comedy, live music and more. May is National Bike Month, celebrated in communities from coast to coast. Here in Carson City, Muscle Powered hosts several fun and exciting bicycle-themed events throughout the month to satisfy everyone from the first-time cyclist to the long-term veterans.

The Carson Tahoe Health Auxiliary, in one of its most popular fundraisers, will host its 6th annual V&T Wine, Cheese and Dessert Train from Carson City to Virginia City on Saturday, May 4, 2019.

The special event train leaves the Eastgate Depot in Carson City at 10 a.m. and arrives in Virginia City at approximately 11:30 a.m. The train arrives back in Carson City before 4:30 p.m. Tickets are pre-sold, and guests are asked to be at the Eastgate Depot by 9:30 a.m.

Headed into Saturday, April 27, 2019 we're looking at another picture-perfect spring weather day and cool overnight temperatures. There's lots of activities ahead, including a colorful fun run at Mills Park, a free paper and document recycling event hosted by Debug Computer, a prescription drug roundup, the Silver State's own celebration of the Aloha State, a Carson High School speech team fundraiser at Flavors of India, art showings and sales and a fundraiser at Flat Earth Pizza for a wonderful Carson City woman who is in the throes of cancer. Terrance Simien has been the original instrument, the voice, to both express shared human emotions and bring his audiences of a multicultural tour of the world; he has created a blend of “New Orleans-funk-reggae-flavored-world-blues-American-zydeco roots music,” that will move an audience to start grooving along to new, innovative sounds grounded in a Creole tradition. In 1983, eighteen-year-old Simien started touring and by age twenty was performing along siege Fats Domino and Sarah Vaugh.

Ahead of next week’s Miss USA Competition, happening on Thursday in Reno, each competing representative from across the country gathered in Carson City on Thursday at the Nevada State Legislature and Nevada State Capitol building to meet with representatives of the Nevada government.

According to Ivet Contreras of IC Media Strategy, the fact that Nevada’s State Senate has a female-led majority, the first in the U.S., was a part of the decision to tour the government grounds today.
