Carson City Grocery Outlet partners with FISH, community members to fight hunger

In Carson City, Grocery Outlet has teamed up with Friends In Service Helping, also known as FISH, and will be collecting donations now through the end of July that will go directly to FISH.

Fire restrictions implemented in Carson City and throughout region, fireworks prohibited
Submitted by editor on Wed, 06/29/2016 - 3:00pmThe Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Nevada Division of Forestry have announced the implementation of fire restrictions for all state and federally owned lands. In addition, the Carson City Fire Department has now implemented fire restrictions on city and privately owned lands within Carson City.
NV Energy customers to see slight decrease in electric rates beginning Friday

Since March 2015, the utility says it has made cuts to electric bills averaging 16.9 percent.

The Rockabilly Riot is jam-packed with activities all over town: the races and booths at Mills Park; a street dance at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; a tattoo show in the Community Center; a free concert at Gold Dust West; and Burlesque at the Nugget. Don’t think that’s all our valley has to offer, though, keep reading for all this weekend’s fun.

Forest Service: 66 million dead trees in Sierra; 26 million since October
Submitted by editor on Fri, 06/24/2016 - 1:49pmThe number of dead trees in the Sierra Nevada are now at historic levels and have fueled the risk of catastrophic wildfires according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The agency announced Wednesday that it has identified an additional 26 million dead trees in California since October 2015, bringing the total to at least 66 million dead trees in the state. The most recent additions are located in six counties across 760,000 acres in the Southern Nevada region.

Check it out at Mills Park and make sure to catch the talented officers competing in this year’s Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge while you’re there. The kids in town are getting a new Teen Center at the Boys and Girls Club: the ribbon cutting is at 10 a.m. You’ll find author Mike White at the Nevada State Museum this evening. His presentation on the best backpacking trips in Nevada and California is part of the Francis Humphrey Lecture Series.

Funded by a $1.2 million naming gift from the William N. Pennington Foundation of Reno and donations from the Carson City community, the club broke ground on the Teen Center in October 2015.
