Welcome to Wednesday, Carson City. The week keeps on rolling along and every day brings some new kind of fun. Kick up your heels at Carson Lanes: Country Line dance lessons tonight. Westside Pour House hosts the Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz each week; it’s a great excuse to grab some friends and fight for bragging rights. The launch party of ‘The Studio’ at the Adams Hub on Proctor Street invites you tour the building, learn about the incubator’s resources, meet some of Carson’s movers and shakers, and enjoy some treats.

Breakfast with Brad Bonkowski

After a brief hiatus, Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor Brad Bonkowski will hold his “Breakfast with Brad” on Friday, August 5, from 7:00 to 8:00 am at the Cracker Box restaurant. All Carson City residents are invited to join Bonkowski for coffee and conversation.
"It’s a very busy summer in Carson City, with so many projects underway, both in the public and private sector. New construction is a good indicator of an improving economy.” Bonkowski said, adding “But even so, I know some people have questions about the projects, I encourage them to come have coffee and ask me.”

Bike Safety Rodeo for Kids set for Tuesday, August 9

Silver City, Nevada – There will be a free Bike Safety Rodeo for children ages 5 to 12 on Tuesday, August 9th from 10am-noon at the Silver City basketball court (385 High Street).

In an effort to teach kids proper bike safety procedures, Western Safe Routes to Schools brings bike safety rodeos to communities in the Carson/ Lyon/Storey region.

The Resident Artist Program in Silver City Welcomes Frances Melhop

Silver City, Nevada - Narrative, story-telling visual artist Frances Melhop, voted “One of the World's 200 Best Advertising Photographers 2009/2010″ by Luerzers Archive, will bring her skills and talents to the Resident Artist Program in Silver City this summer. She'll set up a temporary studio at the Silver City School House during August 2016, photographing some of the Comstock’s longtime residents for a 2017 exhibition at the Haldan Art Gallery at Tahoe.

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, Print Project, at the Community Development Building [the Brick], 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. Ten University of Nevada, Reno [UNR] student artists created the art posters in class earlier this summer. The building is open to the public daily, 8am – noon, 1-4pm. The free exhibition will remain in the building’s lobby exhibition space through August 29.

Summer meals available for kids and teens in Carson City

School may be out for kids in Nevada, but the need for healthy meals never ends. Nearly 4,000 students in Carson City are eligible for free and reduced lunch, making up more than 51 percent of the student population.

Directed by Carla Wilson and written by John Burkhart, “Train to Danger” tells the story of railroad heiresses, the Pullman sisters, as they are stranded in a snowstorm in Hidden Gulch.

Downtown corridor still on schedule for completion by Nevada Day

Construction of Carson Street along the downtown corridor is now a little over half way through the project's eight-month timeline and the work remains on pace to be mostly finished by Nevada Day weekend, Carson City Public Works Engineering Manager Daniel Rotter said.

The Studio: Adams Hub for Innovation to launch new Carson City community events venue

Adams Hub for innovation is celebrating the opening of The Studio at Adams Hub, a new collaboration and event space. The community is invited to the launch party, which will be on Wednesday, August 3, from 5-7 p.m.

Carson City Salvation Army launches annual backpack and school supply drive

The Salvation Army is collecting backpacks and school supplies for disadvantaged children through August 17. Children from Carson City, Douglas County and Lyon County will receive backpacks and school supplies as needed. The Salvation Army will have a distribution of the back packs and a large portion of the back packs collected will be given directly to the School Districts for distribution to children in transition.

Strings in the Summer: Free concert Thursday at Carson Mall

Steady trend continues for initial Nevada unemployment insurance claims

Initial claims for unemployment insurance in Nevada amounted to 11,144 in June, down more than 15 percent from June 2015, but up over the month, according to figures released Monday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

I really hope I’m not required to choose a favorite event. I would be hard pressed to choose between the Nevada Day Parade and the annual Taste of Downtown. Luckily, I can adore them both, and for much the same reason. They are a celebration of community, of Carson City, of our historic downtown and all that it has to offer. In addition to 'The Taste', the Brewery Arts Center goes country with the Southern Drawl Band on its outdoor stage, and Madam Curry leads another downtown Ghost Walk. Coming this Monday and Wednesday, the New Entrepreneurs Network of Carson City will unleash a team of student consultants to help local companies create solutions for their business challenges.

A highlight of the organization’s Get A Glimpse summer program, a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, The Student Consulting Project is the fifth in a series of six sessions that help young people think entrepreneurially about their lives and their futures.

CASI Bingo

Celebrate the dog days of summer on Sunday August 7th at the Carson City Senior Center with CASI Bingo. CASI is an all volunteer non-profit dedicated to raising money to build and equip the new animal shelter in Carson City.

Doors open at 11:30 AM and the first game starts at 12:30 PM. Buy in is $10 and extra packs are $5. Special games are $1 each. We also have a 50/50 raffle and door prizes too. No need to worry about lunch as we offer hot dogs at our snack bar and sometimes the wonderful volunteers will bring something yummy to eat.

Southern Drawl Band hits Carson City for a Free Concert this Saturday night
