'Tis the Season, Carson City! Holiday cheer is in the wind, and we have plenty of wind right now. This weekend is jam-packed with food and toy drives, concerts, and Santa-sightings, so bundle up and have a fun time enjoying our great city.

Senator Square: Holiday concerts ahead as Carson High choir students earn recognition

The Instrumental Music Department, Bands and Orchestra, is having its annual Winter Holiday Concert on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 7 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Donations are welcome. Meanwhile, Carson High School has had a number of their singing Senators recognized for their vocal talents already this year.

Open House, Meet Carson City Sheriff K9's, Silent Auction, Raffle, Pictures with Santa and more.

St. Mary's Art Center in Virginia City to host Dec. 6 Art Faire on the Comstock

The region's finest Nevada-made art will be featured Saturday, Dec. 6 at St. Mary’s Art Center in Virginia City with its first Artists and Artisans Art Faire on the Comstock.

Not only will all galleries be filled with art, the entire building will be full of local artists and creative folk from all over the Comstock region, showing and selling their work. The faire will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The art works range in style, medium, size and price from $5 to $8,000, so there will be something for everyone’s holiday shopping budget.

2nd Annual Empty Bowls Soup Feast and Bowl Event

On December 5, 2014 from 4-7pm help end hunger in Carson City. Join the soup feast and keep the artisan bowl to remind you of the hungry people in your community.

All proceeds go to local 501(C)3, Friends in Service Helping (F.I.S.H.) to feed the hungry. It will be in conjunction with the Carson City Chamber event, Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights. $12/person includes one artisan bowl and admission to enjoy locally made soup donated by Carson restaurants and organizations.

NNDA Pioneer Awards to celebrate achievements, business excellence

Northern Nevada Development Authority is excited to host the 2014 Pioneer Awards Dinner recognizing outstanding businesses and individuals throughout the Sierra Region of Northern Nevada on Thursday at the Carson Nugget.

NNDA will recognize Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell as the special honoree and 2014 Pioneer of the Year for the continual difference he makes in Carson City and the Sierra Region. Also attending will be United States Congressman Mark Amodei as a special guest and presenter and John Tyson as our Master of Ceremony.

Nevada Writers Hall of Fame to honor Shaun Griffin and Ronald James

The 27th annual Nevada Writers Hall of Fame welcomes two new inductees, poet Shaun Griffin and folklorist and historian Ronald M. James. This year’s ceremony will take place Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014 in the Milt Glick Ballroom on the fourth floor of the Joe Crowley Student Union. Alicia Barber, author of Reno’s Big Gamble, will be awarded with the 2014 Silver Pen Award at the ceremony.

27th Annual Nevada Writers Hall of Fame

The 27th Annual Nevada Writers Hall of Fame reception and ceremony will be held Thursday, Nov. 13 in the Milt Glick Ballroom on the 4th floor of the Joe Crowley Student Union on the University of Nevada, Reno campus.

The reception and silent auction begin at 6 p.m. followed by the program at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for $40 per person. Complimentary parking will be available in the metered parking lot at the corner of Virginia and 15th streets.

Friends of Brooks Foundation Golf Tournament at Empire Golf Course, Carson City

This second annual Friends of Brooks Golf Tournament will be held Oct. 5 at Empire Ranch Golf Course in Carson City to honor Brooks Brolsma; his parents Allison and Owen Brolsma started the ‘Friends of Brooks Foundation’ in recognition of the need local families have when a loved one requires extensive medical treatment outside our immediate area. CHS Football Boosters host Aug. 23 annual kick-off fundraiser

Local non-profit, CHS Football Boosters will hold its annual Kick-Off and Hall of Fame Dinner on Saturday, August, 23, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson Nugget Parking lot in Carson City.

Early Check in is encouraged at 6 p.m. The event will be an evening of great food, provided by Carson BBQ, music, silent auction and raffle as well as an induction ceremony for several former Carson High School Football greats into the Carson High Hall of Fame. If these titles ring a bell or you find yourself humming the songs, Concert Under the Stars, A Benefit for The Greenhouse Project is where you will want to be Wednesday, July 9, as Little River Band headlines the sixth annual event at Cafe at Adele’s in Carson City.

For nearly 40 years, the band has produced song after song that not only has done well commercially, but has been woven into a generation’s memories.

Governor puts his signature on CASI fundraising silent auction donation

Two Carson City residents working on a project for the 7th annual CASI Bark, Whine and Dine set for Sunday, July 27 at Fuji Park have gotten a rare gift donation from the Nevada Governor's Office.

Volunteers Adrianne S. Harris and George M. Allen asked Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval if he could provide a signed autograph on something that can be sold at the silent auction. The governor agreed and his secretary presented the volunteers a limited edition 12-inch by 14-inch print by Reno artist Roy Powers. The print is of the Governor's mansion.
