Lyon County authorities investigate fatal shooting in Silver Springs

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal shooting that happened Friday night in Silver Springs.

Deputies were called shortly after 9 p.m. to a Catfish Street address after dispatch received a call from a woman who advised she had shot her adult son, said Lyon County Sheriff's Lieutenant J. L. Pattison.

Pheasants Forever chapter forms in Nevada
's Great Basin

Passionate outdoorsmen recently formed the newest Pheasants Forever chapter in Nevada, known as the Great Basin Pheasants Forever chapter. The group will focus its attention on habitat improvements, increasing pheasant populations, and youth outdoor participation in the Great Basin area.  

The Great Basin chapter was drawn to Pheasants Forever’s unique model, which empowers county and local chapters with the responsibility to determine how 100 percent of their locally raised conservation funds will be spent.

Motorcyclist shot in the elbow near Lyon County area known for target practice

A motorcycle rider was injured Saturday after being shot in the elbow near the Vine Street race track in Fernley, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.

Three motorcycle riders told deputies they were riding in the desert near the Sarasota Flats dry lake when one of them was shot in the right elbow, sustaining non-life threatening injuries. Sarasota Flats is a common area for target practice, said Lyon County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jeremy Grundy.

A Dayton woman was transported to a hospital after her son's gun accidentally went off and shot her.
According to the Sergeant with the Lyon County Sheriff Dayton Substation, on Thursday, February 27, 2014, a young man was showing his new gun to his father.

A man shot himself in the chin early Sunday morning in what the Carson City Sheriff's Office are calling an accidental shooting.
