On Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019 a committee of experts and advocates in the areas of conservation, public land management, biology, wildlife and wild horses interests will convene a forum "Horse Rich and Dirt Poor: The Challenge to Healthy Nevada Lands, Wildlife and Wild Horses."

Everyone knows that October is breast cancer awareness month, but did you know that October is also homocystinuria (HCU) awareness month? Not many have ever heard of the disorder. I definitely hadn’t when I was diagnosed with the condition in April of 2011.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region packed with excitement over the next three days. Events include the Silver State Art Festival at Fuji Park, suicide awareness walks in Carson City, a Celtic faire at Dangberg Home Ranch, the ninth annual Edible Pedal bike ride at Bowers Mansion, train rides in Virginia City and much more!

Heading into Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, events around the capital city region include a morning hike at Lake Tahoe, a Healthy Communities meeting in Virginia City, a cross-country convoy of vintage military vehicles that will make a stopover at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, activities at the Carson City Library, book author presentations at the Nevada State Library and Archives and the Brewery Arts Center, food trucks at Mills Park and more. There's a remembrance this evening at the 911 Memorial at Mills Park beginning at 6 p.m., hosted by Carson City Christian Ministerial Fellowship. Events around the capital city include a monthly lunch series at the Nevada State Library featuring author, professor and poet Lindsay Wilson, a Sierra Nevada Forum discussion on Nevada's Native Tribes, past, present and future; heart and vascular screenings through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, archery at Centennial Park, family craft and movie night at Carson City Library and more.

Nevada Health Centers’ Mammovan will make stops in Reno and Carson City this week. Mammography screenings are primarily for women age 40 and older; however, screenings will be provided to those younger than 40 that have a screening referral from a provider.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, the Nevada State Museum in Carson City has a host of activities and programs planned this week that aim to look back at the past, learn about the present and inspire the future.

CARSON CITY — Fifty years after Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took “one giant leap for mankind,” the image of putting a man on the moon remains a source of pride wrapped in awe for most Americans.

The young and young of heart still dream of becoming astronauts and most people 50-plus can tell you where they were and what they were doing that July day in 1969.

Reno-Tahoe International Airport expects an average of 15,000 passengers to arrive and depart daily, Wednesday through Sunday during the July 4 holiday peak period, a 12 percent year-over-year increase as officials say air service is "on the rise" at the airport.

With a windy cool down headed our way, activities around the Carson City area Wednesday, June 26 will make for a breezy good time. CARSON CITY — Forty-five Carson High School seniors have earned the nationally recognized National Career Readiness Certificate. The assessment is designed to measure students’ career readiness as they prepare to enter the workforce by assessing their abilities in three core areas: applied mathematics, locating information and reading for information.
