Hold on to your hats, Carson City, summer isn’t ready to quit us just yet. An aviation air show at the Minden Airport, the coin show and fair at the Nevada State Museum, and a fishing derby for the kids at Little Washoe Lake are only the tip of the iceberg. The Pavilion at Mills Park is where you’ll find the annual Carson High Football Boosters Fundraising BBQ. The Quicksilver Dog Agility Trials are always fun to watch, and they’ll be at Fuji Park all weekend. Carson Lanes has family fun indoors and out all day long during their Bowling Blast-off.

The Jazz & Beyond - Carson City Music Festival concludes with nine events on Saturday, August 22, and four events on Sunday August 23.

The kids are finishing their first week of school, but the summer hasn’t quit just yet. The annual Jazz and Beyond Festival is heading into its final weekend, and as always, going out in style. Tonight, celebrate Count Basie’s 111th birthday with the Mile High Jazz Band downtown on Third Street. Carson Tahoe Medical Center is holding its 5th annual HopeFest concert headlined by the Young Dubliners. Carson's own, Molly Seals, will be performing, as well.

A walking tour of our haunted past begins at the corner of Third and Curry with the Downtown Ghost Walk. Celebrate Prohibition-style at the Brewery Arts Center: the annual Speakeasy Swing Dance Party wants to see you in your finest zoot suit or flapper dress. Head back to the Eighties at Living the Good Life; DJ Bobby G is spinning the hits from yesteryear.

You may have one eye on the weekend, but don’t underestimate Wednesday in Carson City. The Ormsby Club has special deals for you pool shooting ladies. Jazz it up at Sassafras with Three Olives and a Twist or get your jam on at the Firkin and Fox with Josh and Janera. Jamie Rollins performs at Living the Good Life and Terri and Craig will entertain you at Glen Eagles.

After the Friday wind and rain, we are supposed to see some clear skies: but don’t quote me on that. You know how the weather here can be. The Third and Curry Farmers Market vendors are tough, though, so your weekly dose of fresh produce will be waiting for you either way. Don’t miss the autumn plant sale at the Greenhouse Project booth. The Carson City Historical Society hosts their second yard sale of the season at the historic Forman-Roberts House on North Carson Street, so have fun treasure hunting.

I hope you’re in the mood for music, Carson City. The annual Jazz and Beyond Festival begins today with an art show and concert on the lawn of the Bliss Mansion. Over the next two weeks you’ll have a plethora of melody to choose from at venues throughout town. Enjoy an outdoor concert at Third and Carson with Drinking with Clowns. Sassafras is thrilled to grab Groove Session for a show; they’re usually off touring. Mo’z Motley Blues will give you a reason to dance at Living the Good Life. You’ll want to take a look at the whole list: I’ve only barely scratched the surface.

I apologize, Carson City. You have some decisions to make. There is quite a bit going on whether you want something family friendly, adults only, indoors, outdoors, or a combination of it all. The weekly Farmers Market at Third and Curry St. is always a good way to start the weekend. Yummy food, a bounce house for the kids, and beautiful flowers are hard to argue with. Keep reading for enough fun to make your head spin!

The weekend has arrived and it’s bringing a plethora of activity with it. Car lovers will want to head to the Silver Dollar Car Classic at the Max Casino, known as the Carson Station just a few days ago. The Classic moves to Mills Park for the weekend. If the Mustangs and Broncos you prefer are horses, rather than Fords, you’ll want to grab a ticket to the Bull Riding Competition at the State Fair. Carnival rides, circus performances, and live music will keep everyone entertained. Make sure to catch the shuttle from the Casino Fandango parking garage: parking at Fuji Park is extremely limited. ‘Break a leg’ to the cast of Peter Pan. Youth Theater Carson City opens tonight at the Community Center.

Let’s all go to the Fair! The grand opening and ribbon cutting is at Fuji Park at noon. Funnel cakes, clowns, rabbits, circus games and more await. If you’re a classic car lover, then the Plaza Hotel is the place for you. The annual Silver Dollar Car Classic kicks off tonight with music and more before it moves on to its traditional place at Mills Park. Jelly Bread is in town and playing a free show at Sassafras, and celebrate your July birthday at the Carson Cigar Bar with their monthly birthday bash.

Just a few last days to celebrate National Anti-Boredom Month, and you’re in the right place! Start with a relaxing soak at the Carson Hot Springs. Head over to Comma Coffee for some Americana blues with Dave Leather. Rack ‘em up at the Ormsby Club, or congratulate Tahoe Ridge Winery at their ribbon cutting. Jazz fans can head to Sassafras for dinner and music. The outdoor patio at Firkin and Fox is the perfect place to listen to music and enjoy a locally crafted beer. Show off your knowledge at Lake Tahoe Brewery’s ‘Geeks Who Drink’ trivia night. You won’t have time to be bored!

Can you believe it? It’s the last weekend of July and the kids will be headed back to school in no time. Don’t be dismayed though, plenty of summer fun can still be found. Don’t miss out on making a bowl for the Empty Bowls project at the Farmers Market; or let the kids run off to the bounce house while you make a bowl yourself.

Bikes, and cars, and brews: oh my! Downtown Carson is awash in activity on Saturday. Battleborn Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly features the Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge, vendors, a brewfest, moustache competition and more. The Karson Kruzers are hosting their annual car show at Fuji Park, but will be making their way downtown after it’s over, so there will be plenty of cool cars to admire. Mojo Green takes the stage at 7 p.m. and you can head into the Carson Cigar Company to enjoy Reno’s newest Pink Floyd Tribute Band, Scarlett Moon at 9 p.m.

The Pony Express re-ride runs through town this morning, recreating the ten day trek from St. Joseph, MO to Sacramento, CA. The Kings Canyon Trailhead opens today after a ceremony thanking all those involved in the undertaking. If you can’t wait for the Third and Curry Farmers Market on Saturday, Douglas County hosts two on Wednesday, one at Lampe Park and one at Sierra Gourmet Grill.

The solstice couldn’t come at a better time: we need some long days to get through all the fun stuff Carson City has crammed into one weekend. The annual Powwow at the Stewart Indian School runs Friday through Sunday, so you’ll have plenty of time to see the dancing, peruse the crafts, and eat an Indian Taco. Don’t miss the Fly-in and Open House at the Carson City Airport: fun for the whole family. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention one of Carson City’s favorite events: the Taste of Downtown. Music, food, and more from Carson Mall to Williams Street. Have a great time, and be safe.

We made it, Carson City! It’s Friday, and the first day of summer is this weekend. The Reno Rodeo has begun, and there are several days to get in on the action. Tonight, Carson City BMX is hosting Race for Life, and anyone with a bmx bike and a helmet can participate in helping them raise funds for a good cause. The annual Powwow kicks off at the Stewart Indian School with Grand Entrance at 7 p.m. Head to Comma Coffee and celebrate eleven years of World Dance Open Floor: just watch or sign up to show your moves.

It’s National Eat Your Veggies Day, and if you find yourself in Douglas County, either one of today’s farmers markets will make that an easy and delicious feat. Carson City hosts its own Farmers Market on Third and Curry Streets every Saturday morning until September. Head to the Carson City Library this evening for a presentation on Myanmar by local resident, Raven Grayshield. June is National Soul Food Month, so my suggestion for today is a trip to Sassafras for some New Orleans inspired grub and a great free concert. Songwriter Bryan Hayes will be in house for one night to help promote his new album ‘Farther Down the Line.’ Check out the Official Video for his new Single ‘I Wanna Run.’ The song was written in Mosul, Iraq, and one of Bryan's soldiers, SGT Zach Tucker, is featured in the video.

I don’t mean to make this hard on you, but you have some decisions to make. All day, all night, all weekend long, there are numerous activities throughout our area. Take a good look at the list, grab your friends, family, and kids, and have a great weekend. The Experimental Aircraft Association is hosting the Ford Tri-Motor this weekend, and has Young Eagles flights for the kids: registration and orientation is at 8 a.m. Head over to Eagle Valley Golf for free family golf day.

The weather app on my phone says that it’s supposed to be a sunny weekend hitting a high around 91 degrees. That sounds like summer to me! Get out and enjoy our valley and the surrounding towns, there will be plenty of good times. Carson Valley Days has begun in our neighbor to the south, complete with carnival at Lampe Park. Tonight, welcome a new exhibit in the CCAI Gallery at the Courthouse: a reception for the artists of ‘Industrial Arts’ begins at 5 p.m. Meet the Journey of Hope bike riders at Western Nevada College; plenty of activities for everyone.
