Take a walk with the furry friends at the Littlest Things: ponies and pooches need exercise, too. Carson Cigar Company is the place for laughs: Heads Up is today’s choice for their new game night. Join J and M Productions at the Firkin and Fox. These boys will be bringing over 60,000 songs to choose from for all your karaoke desires.

After that cold snap earlier this week, it’s time to go enjoy the sunshine. Spend the afternoon cheering on the WNC Wildcats as they take on Salt Lake Community College. You’ll find the softball double-header at Livermore Sports Complex off Edmonds; baseball is played at the Harvey Field at Western Nevada College. He’s this month’s Sierra Nevada Forum speaker at the Brewery Arts Center. Buffalo Wild Wings is hosting a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club today; a delicious fundraiser, at that. Let the jazz take you away at Living the Good Life or at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint.

Hello, Carson City. Don’t let the fact that it’s Monday get you down, there are still fun ways to kick off the work week. The Firkin and Fox hosts karaoke tonight; just remember to use the east or south entrances while construction continues on their new patio. Go searching for ghosts at the Gold Hill Hotel. Get your boogie on with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club at El Charro Avita. Their Spring Ball, Dinner, and Dance is this coming Saturday, and you can go here for ticket information.

What a wonderful community we live in. Music, theater, hiking, biking, wining, dining, walking, TED-talking, animal loving, state governing, and so much more are available in our valley. The days are getting longer and there is so much in store for us in the coming weeks and months as we journey into summer. Take a good gander at my list of what’s going on in the Carson City area. Happy Tuesday, Carson City. The Parks and Rec Easy Walk is something special today. A tour of our Historical west side will give you a new perspective on some of the neat old houses we have around downtown. If you get hungry, it’s hard to go wrong with all you can eat wings at Firkin and Fox; they’ve set up new patio seating on the south side while their Third Street patio gets rebuilt. Lunch or dinner at Chili’s will help the homeless pets that Nevada Humane Society serves.

TUESDAY:

Monday has returned, the kids head back to school, and the weather is gorgeous. Add a dose of beautiful to your day with a visit to an art Gallery. You’ll find a new exhibit in the Main Gallery at Western Nevada College. Carson City officials will be on hand today at the Community Center to answer questions and explain what is on the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. While you’re there, take a good gander at the Great Basin Native Artists show on display in the Sierra Room.

MONDAY:

This beautiful weather is no April Fool’s joke, so get out and enjoy the sunshine. Ascent Runs begins their half marathon series today with a race through Carson Canyons, and it is sure to get your heart pumping. The Downtown Business Association wants to see you at today’s wine walk. Once you’re around Telegraph Street, you’ll see some throwbacks from a by-gone era courtesy of Naughty Tea Mistresses, the First Nevada Cavalry, and more.

For brothers Jeff and Paul Young of Carson City, becoming professional brewers just seemed to fit like the right pair of sneakers.

Their company, the Shoe Tree Brewing Company, is scheduled to break ground on its roughly 2,000 square-foot brewery and retail space Monday on the Carson Hot Springs Resort property located at 1500 Old Hot Springs Road in Carson City.

The last day of March and we are all itching for some springtime weather. Luckily, we have some nice days ahead. Dust off that motorcycle and head down to Bike Night at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar. Enjoy an afternoon hike with Muscle Powered. The Kiwanis Club just pulled off their big annual Easter Egg Hunt and is always looking for civic minded community members to join: they meet every Thursday at Casino Fandango. Jellybean hangover, anyone? Monday always arrives too quickly, but luckily it has some good things going for it. The ‘Spring has Sprung’ Art Show opens today at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Center. Get into the swing of things with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club’s ‘Night Out’ at El Charro Avita. J and M Productions offer over 60 thousand songs to choose from, so karaoke at the Firkin and Fox is always a hit.

I should not have done it, but old habits, and common sense, die hard. Carson Street is the main drag through town, always was, always will be, for going between the north and south sides of town. Just look on the map. There are no through-street alternatives that run the length of town, from College Parkway to Clearview Drive; only fragments, most of which are residential.

Spring has sprung. Days getting longer, flowers blooming, and now Easter weekend is upon us. Egg hunts, brunches, and even a parade are all part of the fun. Take a look at this weekend’s event summary for family fun, live music, and much more.

This month’s installment of the Francis Humphrey Lecture Series focuses on the history of the U.S.S. Nevada. Here comes Peter Cottontail, hopping down Medical Parkway. The annual Eggstravaganza returns to the Carson Tahoe Medical Center this afternoon with fun for kids of all ages. You’ll find Moses parting the Red Sea on the big screen, as The Ten Commandments makes its way to the Galaxy Theater as part of their Classic Movie Series. City Manager, Nick Marano, is the featured speaker at the monthly ‘Soup’s On’ Luncheon sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Enjoy the evening with a Jazz Jam at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint or karaoke at Crossroads Lounge.

Springtime means spring break for the students at Western Nevada College, and it begins today. A chance to catch up on homework, catch your breath, and catch some of the fun stuff around town. Enjoy ladies night at Remedy’s Bar. Wander through some of the great art exhibits throughout town. Sing your heart out at Firkin and Fox’s karaoke night. However you spend the day, just rejoice that they are finally getting longer.

The spring thaw has arrived, and my event list is getting longer. Carson City has some fun stuff happening this weekend, so please take a look. If you haven’t made it to see Wild Horse Children’s Theater’s production of Disney’s The Aristocats, Kids, or the Carson High spring musical, ‘Kiss Me, Kate.’ what are you waiting for? Keep your eyes peeled for Girl Scouts, this is the last weekend of cookie sales.

I hope everyone had a great time yesterday. I also hope you are ready for the party to continue. The Brewery Arts Center has Celtic duo Men of Worth playing in the Black Box Theater, folk singer/songwriter Liam Kyle Cahill is at Living the Good Life, you'll find the Whitehats performing at the West Side Pour House, and Sassafras has a night of rock with Year of the Fist and Double Header. Those who love dance should check out World Dance Open Floor at Comma Coffee or the West Coast Swing night that Yaple's Ballroom hosts every third Friday. Saint Patrick was a gentleman, who through strategy and stealth, drove all the snakes from Ireland, here’s a toasting to his health. But not too many toastings, lest you lose yourself and then, forget the good Saint Patrick and see all those snakes again! Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Carson City.
