Baseball season is in full swing, as the Carson Senators took the field for their home debut Thursday looking to start the season on the right foot with a victory against the Fallon Greenwave.

What a great start to March. A few days on sunshine under our belt and now it’s wine walk weekend. With fingers crossed, the weather should hold out until it’s over, but be prepared for some wind. The Shrine Circus is in Reno, Girl Scout Cookies are on sale, and we inch closer to the longer days and shorter nights of Spring. If everything goes as planned, the sun will finally make an appearance. That’s good news for those running in the Carson High Safe and Sober 5K or in Ascent Runs’ Love Can Be Cold 5/10K at Prison Hill. Navy cadets on the Carson High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (CHS NJROTC) orienteering team know where they're going.

Equipped only with magnetic-north compasses and maps, these cadets have found their way to the Navy JROTC Orienteering Championships for the third straight year.

Registration is open for the Northern Nevada Wildfire Awareness Multi-hour Trail Event hosted by University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Living With Fire Program in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management and Desert Sky Adventures. All proceeds from the race will be donated to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.

How adventurous are you? Ascent Runs continues their Be Bold, Run in the Cold Winter Trail Series with a five or ten kilometer run starting at Centennial Park. If you’d like a less strenuous outdoor activity, then the Downtown Business Association’s monthly Wine Walk is a perfect choice. The wine walk is a rain, snow, or shine event, so bring an umbrella. The more adventurous of you will be participating in the Be Bold, Run in the Cold ‘Run with Rudolph’ 5/10K near Western Nevada College. If you’d rather be indoors, the Carson Mall is hosting a Holiday Craft Fair, and at noon will celebrate the grand opening of Ogres-Holm Pottery. Celebrate a Country Christmas with Mary Kaye and the Kaye Sisters in Genoa or get your Celtic fix at the Brewery Art Center with a performance by County Clarke. Online registration for the annual Carson City Turkey Trot ends midnight Tuesday. Join organizers of this fun-filled, non-fattening Thanksgiving Day morning fun run and walk and give yourself an excuse for an extra piece of pie later in the day.

Nevada is one of the few states that celebrate its Admission Day, and boy do we throw a party. A parade, competitions of strength and facial hair, hot air balloons, bloody marys, a carnival, pow wow, and free chili are just a few of the festivities awaiting the capital city on Saturday.

The party begins Friday this year with a ribbon cutting celebration of the 'new' downtown. The Nevada State Museum hits its 75th Anniversary this year and will have a day full of fun and surprises. Before the football games, the big meal and the pies, why not get in a little run with a few hundred of your neighbors Thanksgiving morning? The Carson City Turkey Trot is an event the entire family will enjoy and is on its way to becoming a local tradition.

Kingsbury Grade in Douglas County was closed for several hours Friday after a crash between a motorhome and a Nissan Pathfinder sent several victims to area hospitals and resulted in the death of one of the drivers.

The sight of a pair of outhouses barreling down the street with thousands cheering them on in an all-out, old school potty race would probably be considered an odd form of entertainment almost anywhere, but not in Virginia City.

This annual fall tradition on the Comstock, the World Championship Outhouse Races, takes place the first weekend of October and pits teams of three costumed outhouse racers against each other, sprinting down the town’s historic main street, C Street, toward the toilet paper finish line.

It isn't every day you find a dog willing to do something for a cat.

But that's exactly what happened Sunday morning at Riverview Park off East Fifth Street in Carson City when dozens of canines and their humans participated in CASI's annual 5K9 Run/Walk.

Registration is open for the 27th Nevada Day Classic to Benefit Guide Dogs for the Blind that will be held Saturday, October 29.

Since 1989, the Nevada Day Classic has been an annual event presented by the Tahoe Mountain Milers. This 8k run and 2 mile run/walk brings together hundreds of runners and walkers of all shapes, and sizes who hit the streets of the historic West Side of Carson City with Guide Dog Puppies-in-Training who serve as course marshals to cheer them on!

CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait - More than 200 soldiers participated today in a memorial run here to honor three Nevada guardsmen and one civilian killed five years ago in the Carson City IHOP shooting.

On Sept. 6, 2011, Nevada Guardsmen Lt. Col. Heath Kelly, 35, Master Sgt. Christian Riege, 38, Sgt. 1st Class Miranda McElhiney, 31, and Florence Donovan-Gunderson, 67, were killed in the shooting.

Runners and walkers gathered at IHOP in Carson City early Tuesday morning to commemorate the victims of the IHOP mass shooting that happened five years ago today in Carson City.

On Sept. 6, 2011, Nevada Guardsmen Lt. Col. Heath Kelly, 35, Master Sgt. Christian Riege, 38, Sgt. 1st Class Miranda McElhiney, 31, and civilian Florence Donovan-Gunderson, 67, of South Lake Tahoe, were killed in the shooting rampage, in which a mentally ill gunman took his own life. Two other soldiers and seven patrons were injured.

The kids deserve some fun for surviving their first week back at school, and Carson City delivers. The first annual Northern Nevada Family Fun Day takes over Mills Park with music, a kids zone, activities, food, raffles, and much more. Check out the Bowling Blast Off at Carson Lanes for a Car Show, bowling specials, and fun. Once the sun sets, Washoe Lake State Park offers a basic astronomy lesson and some celestial viewing. The Carson City Kiwanis will host it's 3rd Annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day. There will many activities including a four person scramble golf tourney with many categories, such as men's teams , women's teams, mixed and senior teams. It's only $75 person and Michael Hohl Motors is donating a vehicle for if a person who get's a hole in one. This event will be held at the Empire Ranch golf course, as will the other events.

The Tahoe Mountain Milers Running Club presents the 14th Annual Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs. Carson City plays host as the event headquarters. Runners packets are being distributed today, Friday, in the legislative mall.

This three day event with over 550 participants and at least as many volunteers, began in 2001 as a 50 Mile and 50 Kilometer Endurance Run. The 100 Mile event was added in 2006 and is an internationally recognized Ultra Event.

Since 1989 the annual Nevada Day Classic, an 8K Run or 2-mile Run/Walk presented by the Tahoe Mountain Milers, brings together hundreds of runners and walkers of all shapes and sizes — as Halloween costumes are encouraged — who hit the streets of the historic West Side of Carson City with Guide Dog Puppies-in-Training serving as course marshals to woof them on! Families and groups can participate in the walk, enjoy the race breakfast, and help celebrate Nevada by enjoying the Nevada Day Parade that immediately follows the Classic.

Western Nevada College put the pedal to the metal in its opener of the Western District baseball tournament on Thursday in Trinidad, Colo.

The Wildcats of Carson City launched two homers and totaled 14 hits in a 9-5 victory against tournament host Trinidad State in Central Park. Bradley Lewis and Abe Yagi smashed two-run homers to spark unranked WNC in their first game of the season using metal bats.

As the weather warms, so does heat dished up this weekend with all the right spices at the 33rd annual Chili on the Comstock in Virginia City.
