Organizers of the 26th annual KTVN Channel 2 News Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive were set up early at the Governor's Mansion, 606 N. Mountain Street in Carson City, on Friday morning, accepting shelf-stable food and cash donations on behalf of Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Trespasser leaves bags behind, jailed for heroin possession

A transient man was arrested Friday morning at 10:35 a.m. in the 1800 block of Camille Drive on misdemeanor trespassing and felony possession of heroin, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

Letter to the Editor: A reminder that restaurant management reflects the business

Recently, I was subjected to poor management at a new local restaurant in Carson City. We have all experienced poor management within our work careers and thought a friendly reminder should be sent out this Holiday Season.

The manager and the serving employees are the face of the business to their clients that patronize the food establishment. Management can make or break a business.

Christmas tree tags nearly sold out on Eldorado National Forest

PLACERVILLE, Calif. — There are less than 300 Christmas tree tags remaining out of the 4,500 that were available through the Eldorado National Forest Christmas tree permit program this year. The Placerville Ranger Station has already run out. As of this morning, the Forest Supervisor's office still had 175 tags; the Georgetown Ranger Station had 100 tags; and the Amador Ranger Station had 40 tags.

A clearer picture of what this week’s series of storms may bring has emerged from National Weather Service forecasters Monday, with a Winter Storm Watch now in effect for Lake Tahoe and Sierra, which could see 3 or more feet of snow and a slight chance of snow down to the valley floors by the end of the week.

UPDATE MONDAY: The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch for the greater Lake Tahoe area and the Sierra from Wednesday night through late Thursday. Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations 6 to 12 inches, with 1 to 3 feet above 7,000 feet possible.

Active weather patterns will begin to move into the Sierra and Carson City region beginning Tuesday, with valley rain and mountain snow at Lake Tahoe extending into Friday and possibly beyond, according to the National Weather Service.

Tickets are moving fast for Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s “Wild and Swingin’ Holiday Party!” at Casino Fandango in Carson City on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Presented by the Brewery Arts Center, the highly anticipated event will be the first concert at the casino’s new Grand Ballroom, which held its official ribbon-cutting in early November. The show begins at 7 p.m.

Turkey Trot, Gobble Wobble brings out Thanksgiving runners in Carson City

“Run Now, Gobble Later,” said the Turkey Trot sign, and Carson City runners seemed to be all in. Even with the wet streets from rain earlier in the morning.

The Turkey Trot began at 8:30 Thanksgiving morning in front of the Governor’s Mansion, and the adorably named “Gobble Wobble” kids run began at 8:45.
