It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Nevada state capital, and there is no shortage of holiday events and activities to make the season bright.

From the Downtown Business Association Monthly Wine Walk and Holiday With a Hero annual Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City, to Christmas On the Comstock in Virginia City and the Parade of Lights through downtown Minden, a plethora of holiday cheer minimizes your chances of getting Grinched this weekend.

Here's what's happening on Saturday, Dec. 1:

— Flying Pig Indoor Flea Market, Fuji Park Exhibition Hall on Old Clear Creek Road across from Costco, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Admission $1 for adults. Children under 18 are free.

— Carson Mall Craft Fair up and running for holiday season. 9 a.m. The Carson Mall Craft Fair is open now for the holiday season, with local crafts, toys, clothes, and more! The Fair opened on Nov. 23 and will run until Christmas Eve from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

— Holiday arts and crafts shopping on the Comstock, hosted by Silver City Arts, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Virginia City Senior Center, 100 Mill Street in Virginia City; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Mary's Art Center, 55 N. R Street in Virginia City; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Silver City Schoolhouse Community Center, 385 High Street in Silver City.

— Meet Santa in his giant igloo. Santa and his giant igloo return to downtown Carson City for photos this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Santa Claus and his merry elves will be at the Lift Tree lot across from the Ormsby House this weekend. — Toys For Tots Fundraiser at the Tap Shack, 112 Rice Street in Carson City, 1-3 p.m.

— City of Sparks Hometowne Christmas Parade, 1 p.m. along Victorian Avenue in downtown Sparks. Preceded by the Ugly Sweater Run, 10-11 a.m. at Scheels at the Sparks Marina.

— Rain, snow or shine: Downtown Business Association Monthly Wine Walk, 1-5 p.m. at participating businesses throughout Carson City's downtown business and historic districts. Cost is $15 without an official Carson City Downtown Business Association wine glass and $10 with an official CC Downtown Business Association wine glass. Glasses and wrist bands can be purchased at the following locations: Carson Nugget, Carson Jewelry and Loan, Cactus Jacks, Purple Avocado, Comma Coffee, Touched By Angels, and the Brewery Arts Center. At the end of the Wine Walk, head over to Alatte Coffee and Wine Bar inside the Carson Nugget for a chance to win great prizes donated by downtown businesses. Tickets come with each paid entry into the Wine Walk. Be sure to write in a selection for favorite Wine Walk stop at the bottom of each raffle ticket before turning it in. The raffle starts promptly at 5 p.m.

— Reno Video Game Symphony Call for Musicians for 2018 Fall Season. Rehearsals are 4 and 6 p.m. Saturdays on the University of Nevada, Reno, campus in the Church Fine Arts building, Room 112. — Carson Valley Community Theatre presents, "The Parade of Lights Open House and Holiday Party," 1572 U.S. Highway 395 in Minden. Doors open at 4 p.m.

— Dayton Valley Dog Park Tree Lighting Fundraiser, 4:30-5:30 p.m., 15 Old Como Road in Dayton.

— 23rd annual Parade of Lights, 5-8 p.m. from Heritage Park to Minden Park. The Carson Valley lights up for the Holiday Season with the 23rd year of the Parade of Lights, featuring floats, marching bands, color guard, and Santa Claus. Parade entries will leave Heritage Park at 5 p.m., enter U.S. Highway 395 at Eddy Street and proceed down Main Street to Esmeralda and then to Minden Park. The theme for 2018 is "Santa's Workshop."

— Holiday with a Hero annual Holiday Crawl through downtown Carson City, 5-10 p.m. The Holiday with a Hero committee hosts the Holiday Crawl, a festive pub crawl through downtown bars to raise money for the annual shopping spree for children who classify as homeless in Carson City. The Holiday Crawl draws hundreds annually who walk through downtown Carson City, taking in entertainment from talented local bands and artists, including Bootleg, Eross, Jimmy V Music (Jimmy VanDeuson II), Athena McIntyre, and Gary Wheeler, as well as enjoying food and beverages offered at local bars.
In past years, Holiday with a Hero donations annually have benefited approximately 300 children living in cars, campgrounds, motels or shared spaces, and are part of the Carson City School District McKinney-Vento Students in Transition program.
All proceeds go to Holiday with a Hero, the annual drive by local law enforcement, firefighters, military service members and others to provide a Christmas shopping trip for underprivileged schoolchildren (kindergarten through eighth grade). Each child receives a $100 Walmart gift card to shop with their leader. The Carson City Fire Department, Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Department of Corrections and several other local organizations provide volunteers for the event. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, also donations are welcome. — D’Ville Youth Basketball Tournament. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 1-2, 6-8 p.m. at the MAC. Third places, MVP and all tourney awards. — Wild Horse Children's Theater presents the Northern Nevada premiere of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's "Mary Poppins, Jr." With unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers and an irresistible story, this magical family-musical is “practically perfect” for the start of the holiday season. "Mary Poppins, Jr." runs two weekends only at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street in Carson City, with two casts of incredibly talented local youth ages 5-18.
Showtimes are Saturday, Dec. 1 and Dec. 8 at 2 and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 2 and Dec. 9 at 2 p.m.

— Fourth annual Pets of the Homeless fundraiser presented by Carpa Nevada, LLC and Downtown Coin, 111 W. Telegraph Street in Carson City. Carpa Nevada is donated all of the profits from the sales of its fine Portuguese olive oils and balsamic vinegar to Pets of the Homeless now through Jan. 31, 2019. — Tiffani and Bailee's 6th Sealed Toy Drive underway now through Dec. 9, drop off boxes throughout Carson City. Tiffani Barber was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer on Dec. 8, 2012. For those of you who didn't know Tiffani, all she ever wanted to do was help people. So it was no surprise to those closest to her that when the social worker assigned to her case asked her what she needed, Tiffani replied with, "How can I help?" There are multiple locations throughout the Carson City, Carson Valley and Reno area.

— From Carson City to Dayton: Be a Santa to a Senior. Now through Dec. 11, 2018 Home Instead Senior Care and Center for Healthy Aging have set up their trees, and placed the tags for our seniors. These are seniors, who are in homes, and have no one to celebrate the holidays with. Our community from Carson City to Dayton and in between have been absolutely wonderful by getting a tag, and filling the wishes for our Seniors here. There are trees set up at Dayton Smith's, Paradise Salon, Les Schwab and United Federal Credit Union (off of Topsy), and AAA. — Scoup's Ice Cream and Soup Bar 12 Days of Christmas, now through Dec. 21. Scoup's Ice Cream and Soup Bar has purchased 12 gifts from some of our local businesses, each one to be gifted to 12 lucky individuals. Items to be gifted come from Rocking And Rolling, Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery, The Purple Avocado, Gather, The Bike Smith, Touched by an Angel, Carson City Culture and Tourism Authority, Carson Jewelry and Loan, Rustically Divine, and Kaleidoscope. Drawing tickets will be given to our customers with each purchase. The drawing will continue as long as we have tickets (7,654 tickets) or until Dec. 21, at closing, one day prior to the last drawing. — Toys for Tots Carson City and surrounding counties offers hotline for toys. Toys for Tots will be offering gifts to families in Carson City, Douglas, Storey and Lyon counties for Christmas. — Winter Conditioning Program at Well Being Fitness. 9 a.m. 1851 S. Roop St, Unit 145, Carson City. Winter sports and activities are on the horizon! — Patricia Ann Probst: An Artist of the Movement. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Charlie B Gallery is proud to announce the coming of a ceramic celebration art show and sale: “Patricia Ann Probst: An Artist of the Movement.” The gallery will offer many works created by Patricia Ann Probst (1941-2016). A sale will continue through Dec. 2 at 114 West Telegraph.

— Christmas tree permits available on Carson, Bridgeport ranger districts. Permits to cut Christmas trees on the Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will be available for purchase now through Dec. 25. The U.S. Forest Service Christmas Tree Program is designed for families, businesses, and institutions wishing to cut their own trees for decorating. Christmas tree permits must be purchased in person and are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis for $10 each, with a limit of two trees per household. Permits are nonrefundable and nontransferable, and only valid through Dec. 25, 2018. The Ranger Districts have a limited amount of Christmas tree permits available, and once those allotted permits are sold, no more will be available.

— Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is currently seeking individuals and pairs interested in leading interpretive programs in one of our many parks and open spaces. Interested individuals and pairs are encouraged to apply. If interested, go here.

— Carson City Art Gallery features Show by Erik Holland. 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Celebrate the artwork of Erik Holland. He has worked as an artist his entire adult life. He started painting murals in Fairbanks, Alaska in the 1990s. He then moved to Reno, Nevada, achieving his dream of living in the high desert. He has had a one man show in Reno every year since 2001. The show was born on a desire to depict the many sides of America. Amerika is spelled with a K to denote concern with our troubled times. The images come from the life of artist Erik Holland, starting in 1980, when he painted "Spirit of the Eighties" The show is in fact a retrospective of the artist's life from 1980 to the present. — The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, Americana with Cadmium Orange, by artist Gig Depio at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Depio is an artist and an advocate for public art in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was awarded the 2016 Fellowship Grant in Painting by the Nevada Arts Council (NAC). He has worked on various exhibitions and projects with the Nevada Museum of Art, Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery, and UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum, among others. — Meals on Wheels Carson City will be participating in the 2018 Subaru Share the Love Event as a member of Meals on Wheels America, one of four national Share the Love charitable partners supported through the promotion. From Nov. 15 through Jan. 2, 2019, Subaru of America will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased to the customer's choice of participating charities.
