South Lake Tahoe air show officials monitor King Fire developments; blaze prompts free admission to Saturday event

City officials are closely monitoring the King Fire along with wind patterns from NOAA, visibility with the FAA and local and State law enforcement.
Nordyke Ranch House in Lyon County listed in State Register of Historic Places

As one of the few remaining buildings of the small ranching community of Nordyke, the ranch house stands as a visible reminder of Mason Valley’s agricultural development in the early 20th century.
WNC Offers Fall and Winter Driver Education Courses in Carson City and Douglas County
Submitted by admin on Fri, 09/12/2014 - 5:38amCARSON CITY – New Driver Education courses for teens age 15 and older will be offered at Western Nevada College this fall and over the winter break. All courses are $100. Each session includes four days of instruction, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Two courses will meet on the WNC Carson City Campus on Saturdays, Sept. 20-Oct. 18, or Oct. 18-Nov. 15 (no class Nov. 1, Nevada Day Weekend). A winter break class will be offered Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, Dec. 29, 30, 31 and Jan. 2. The Carson City classes include four hours on a driving simulator.

The fundraising event is a great way for families to show off their pets while giving them some exercise too. Awards will be given to the 1st place male and female K9 finishers. Every participant receives a free gift.
Check-in time is between 8:15 - 8:45 a.m. with the run beginning at 9 a.m. Pre-registration is encouraged and discounted fees are offered.
Carson City deputies arrest three on felony charges
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 08/28/2014 - 9:30amTwo men with gang ties were arrested Wednesday in the 2700 block of Menlo Drive by the Tri-County Gang Unit. One of the men was wanted on a felony fugitive from justice warrant out of California, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Oswaldo Torres, 28, is being held without bail awaiting extradition on the California Department of Corrections warrant issued June 2, 2014. The other man, 29, faces misdemeanor warrant related charges.

Details emerge in capture of Carson City laundromat burglary suspect

A brief foot chase led to arrest of the suspect, Nicholas Stockwell, 22, who faces felony burglary and two misdemeanors charges. He is being held on $26,126 bail at Carson City Jail.
Men allegedly scan items at Gardnerville Walmart and walk out without paying
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 08/05/2014 - 1:25pmThe Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying two men who are considered persons of interest in a theft last month at the Walmart Store located on Grant Avenue in Gardnerville.
On July 19, 2014 at approximately 9:46 p.m., two male suspects in the photo here entered Walmart and selected several items. They brought the merchandise they selected to the self-check register. The males scanned each of the items and placed the items into bags, then left the store without paying for the merchandise.

A 32-year-old Reno man, Benjamin Sowda, was booked Thursday into Carson City Jail on a felony warrant for failure to appear on a charge of fraudulent use of a credit card, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Team entry deadline nears for Carson City short film competition

Organizers of this second annual event are looking for budding filmmakers of all ages. The week-long short film competition runs from noon Friday, July 25 to noon, Friday Aug. 1.
Carson City man jailed for allegedly forging prescription from doctor

Robert Wayne Smith was jailed on $5,000 bail. Officers spoke with the pharmacist who received a call from a local doctor who asked the pharmacist not to fill any new prescriptions for the man as they were all forged, the arrest report states.
Forest Service and BLM make revisions to sage-grouse draft environmental statement

The Forest Service and BLM management plan amendments will specifically enhance management direction for the Bi-state sage-grouse habitat. This Bi-state sage-grouse population occurs in portions of Lyon, Mineral, Esmeralda, and Douglas counties in Nevada and in portions of Alpine, Inyo, and Mono counties in California.
Man arrested by Carson City deputies on felony burglary, stolen property charges

Charles Roy Dickey, whose address is listed as homeless, was jailed on three felony charges, including burglary, possession of stolen property and a failure to appear warrant issued in March out of Clark County District Court.

For the past three years during the month of July, Grocery Outlet stores and their customers have collectively donated more than $500,000, and in 2014, the retail grocer is hoping to raise even more support to help fight hunger.
