As we head into the middle of the month many of us haven't turned on the air conditioner because the weather outside has been comfortably, pleasantly air conditioned these past few weeks. And now with valley rain, wind and Sierra snow on the way, we tip our hat to one Carson Now reader, LaNair, who pledged he wouldn't turn on their heater these next few days because, well, it is May after all. History comes alive during Carson City Scavenger Hunt

What distinguishes Carson City from every other city in Nevada is its unique history, and every citizen of this city should become familiar with how our City shaped the history of Nevada that still resonates today.

Yes, for some, history elicits a yawn, but once you get into it, the history of a community can be fascinating and will get you off your couch and perhaps onto your bicycle, for much of our history can be found within the downtown core where bike riding is easy. Don’t own a bike, well, you can walk to many of the sites.

We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

In celebration of Historic Preservation and Archaeological Awareness month, the Carson City Historic Resource Commission has organized the 10th Annual Scavenger Hunt. This year’s hunt focuses on the history and culture of the capital city. The Commission crafted the hunt to be an event the family can do together.

Lyon County commission denies permit for exotic animal preservation center in Mason Valley

YERINGTON — The Lyon County Planning Commission on Tuesday unanimously rejected a use permit proposal for an exotic animal rescue facility in the Mason Valley area after it had learned of litigation underway from the non-profit organization's current facility in Oregon.
