CARSON CITY — The Nevada Arts Council announced the awarding of $22,639.60 in statewide grants to support individual artists in the production and presentation of artistic projects that will occur between Jan. 1 and June 30, 2020.

William "Bill" Clarence Thornton, father, attorney, pilot, part-time cowboy, corny joke-teller, and mentor to many, had his final flight on Tuesday, November 5th, 2019 after gracefully charting his course with Parkinson's Disease for over twenty years. Bill died peacefully at home in hospice care surrounded by loved ones.

In a strong showing of community support, Tazmanian Boxing Club owner Francisco Rodriguez cut the ribbon to his gym's new 8,000 square-foot fitness facility Saturday morning with the help of family, friends, the Carson City Chamber of Commerce and Carson City Board of Supervisors.

Tazmanian Boxing Club, which has distinguished itself over past few years as more than a boxing gym, has moved to a new and much larger location at 3737 North Carson Street in Carson City.

When Maria Watson walked back into the manufacturing facility that she and her husband had built, she felt so small and alone.

The 55,000 square-foot building was empty, and so was a part of Watson.

Following a serious car accident in 2008 and two years later the discovery of a genetic predisposition for young onset Parkinson’s Disease, a career Carson High School teacher may have had to retire from the school district, but he has never stopped gaining and offering knowledge through his lifelong passion as an educator.

Retired Carson High School teacher Brian Reedy of Carson City will join more than 300 other advocates in Washington, D.C. March 19-21 to meet with their Members of Congress to share their stories of the personal impact Parkinson’s disease has made on their lives and the lives of their loved ones.

It could be the fact that he reminds me of a kinder, gentler Mickey Goldmill, the rough-edged, gravelly-voiced fictional manager of Rocky Balboa played superbly by actor Burgess Meredith. He never gave up believing in Balboa, even when Rocky had quit on himself.
