Rock Steady Boxing in Carson City names April boxer of the month
April is Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month, said Rock Steady Boxing Northern Nevada, and Randy Putzer has been named the club's Boxer of the Month.
This is Putzer's story:
As a police officer, I was always in shape. In 2009, I was diagnosed with benign essential tremors. Symptoms progressed, and in 2011 I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.
Parkinson's Disease is no stranger to my family as my father also had the disease.
Not being able to do day-to-day things easily like getting out of a chair was very frustrating to me and my family noticed how much quieter I had become.
I am in a much better place mentally and physically because of Rock Steady. Since starting the program, my family has seen so many changes in me.
My overall balance and coordination have improved. I have learned new techniques to make everyday tasks easier such as getting in and out of a chair and using my loud voice. I also have more energy.
I have found new and supportive friends I can relate to and laugh with. The support system of Rock Steady has not only benefited myself, but my entire family as well. Being surrounded by people who are going through the same things as you and your family is so encouraging and hopeful.
