Virginia City wild weekends ahead feature Labor Day celebration, camel and ostrich races

Region's first responders to be honored during Dayton Valley Days

Early this year the Dayton Valley Days Committee unanimously voted to dedicate the festival scheduled September 17-18, 2016 in Old Town Dayton to the region's first responders as a way to thank each of them and let them know that in these turbulent times the communities they serve is behind them.

I would be hard pressed to choose between the Nevada Day Parade and the annual Taste of Downtown. Luckily, I can adore them both, and for much the same reason. They are a celebration of community, of Carson City, of our historic downtown and all that it has to offer. In addition to 'The Taste', the Brewery Arts Center goes country with the Southern Drawl Band on its outdoor stage, and Madam Curry leads another downtown Ghost Walk. The event features food, friendship, entertainment, vendors, a bicycle parade and free swimming at The Carson Hot Springs. The festival is a celebration of unity, diversity and community. See the video below.
27th Nevada Day Classic to Benefit Guide Dogs for the Blind
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 07/05/2016 - 1:23pmSince 1989 the annual Nevada Day Classic, an 8K Run or 2-mile Run/Walk presented by the Tahoe Mountain Milers, brings together hundreds of runners and walkers of all shapes and sizes — as Halloween costumes are encouraged — who hit the streets of the historic West Side of Carson City with Guide Dog Puppies-in-Training serving as course marshals to woof them on! Families and groups can participate in the walk, enjoy the race breakfast, and help celebrate Nevada by enjoying the Nevada Day Parade that immediately follows the Classic.
Things to do on Independence Day

Carson City, Virginia City, Lake Tahoe, and Reno will have fireworks displays starting around 9:30. Minden, Gardnerville, and Genoa aren’t slacking, though. Festivities can be found just about everywhere.

Nevada Day parade to follow traditional route, partners with Carson City Visitors Bureau
Submitted by editor on Fri, 04/22/2016 - 7:36pmThe annual Nevada Day parade, which celebrates the state’s admission to the Union in 1864, will run its traditional route north to south along Carson Street in Carson City this year.
“People are used to seeing it start at William Street and ending up at Stewart Street,” said Ken Hamilton, executive director of Nevada Day Inc. “A lot of people watch the parade from the same spot every year, and we didn’t want them to have to change. We decided to stick with tradition.”

This year, the theme acknowledges the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act, which helps to stabilize neighborhoods and downtowns, contributes to public education, attracts investment, creates jobs, generates tax revenues, supports small business and affordable housing, and powers Nevada’s heritage tourism industry.
