Heading into the weekend, there's a bevy of events around the Carson City region that brings a cool breeze to the first three days of summer. The 16th Motor Officer Challenge kicks off Friday at 7 a.m. at Mills Park. Lace up the shoes for a Friday morning walk at East Silver Saddle Ranch hosted by Muscle Powered.

We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

Northern Nevada Lecturer Mike Thomas has rescheduled his “Future War” presentation for Saturday, March 9 at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory in Carson City. Friday will feature a discussion on "Myths and Legends."

Saturday's "Future War" lecture by Mike Thomas has been cancelled due to expected bad weather. SInce the national weather service recommends avoiding travel Saturday night, we thought this best.

I will be in Saturday night for a few hours to do some telescope maintenance, but the weather will prevent any star party viewing. We recommend that people avoid travel in the snow.

A carnival is a great way to help Mom celebrate her special day.
