Good morning Carson City and happy Saturday! It’s going to be another grey day, with a high of 64 and a low of 44. But hey, it could be freezing, or things could be on fire, so I won’t complain! On the docket today we’ve got day two of the Rib Fest, a Virginia City train tour, museum activities, a heroes parade, and more. As we head into a jam-packed Memorial Day weekend, activities and events around Carson City on Friday will help set the mood for what promises to be a tremendous few days ahead. Festivities include the opening day of the Rockin’ Rib Fest at Carson City's Casino Fandango, the planting of American flags on the graves of our fallen veterans at Lone Mountain Cemetery, a weekly open mic night at A to Zen, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club, live music and more.

Good morning Carson City! It's going to be another beautiful day in the capital city, with highs of 78 and lows of 44. On the docket today we've got a canned food drive to help the Ron Wood Center, a volunteer day to restore the Mills Park train, a Mother's Day Plant Sale, and more! The weekend is at our doorstep as we head into Friday, May 10, 2019. Even though forecasters say we may have showers this weekend, the cool spring rain won't dampen the fun. We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

Headed into Saturday, April 27, 2019 we're looking at another picture-perfect spring weather day and cool overnight temperatures. There's lots of activities ahead, including a colorful fun run at Mills Park, a free paper and document recycling event hosted by Debug Computer, a prescription drug roundup, the Silver State's own celebration of the Aloha State, a Carson High School speech team fundraiser at Flavors of India, art showings and sales and a fundraiser at Flat Earth Pizza for a wonderful Carson City woman who is in the throes of cancer. Daylight Savings Time is about to begin, harkening the approach of Spring. Winter, though, continues its stubborn hold on the region, so bundle up this weekend in spite the extra hour of daylight. There's a chance of snow showers throughout the weekend with daytime highs only into the low 40s.

And remember to set your clocks ahead one hour Saturday night!

Northern Nevada Lecturer Mike Thomas has rescheduled his “Future War” presentation for Saturday, March 9 at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory in Carson City. Friday will feature a discussion on "Myths and Legends."

Saturday's "Future War" lecture by Mike Thomas has been cancelled due to expected bad weather. SInce the national weather service recommends avoiding travel Saturday night, we thought this best.

I will be in Saturday night for a few hours to do some telescope maintenance, but the weather will prevent any star party viewing. We recommend that people avoid travel in the snow.

Well, Carson City, here we are at the end of another work week. And if you love to play in the snow on weekends, then there's good news on its way.

Northern Nevada lecturer Mike Thomas will kick off the new year with free talks on Friday, Jan. 11 and Saturday, Jan. 12 at Jack C. Davis Observatory on the Western Nevada College campus in Carson City.

Today’s events include an organized walk along Carson City's historic east side, coffee and talk with a supervisor, art showings, a lecture, live standup comedy with Howie Nave at the Carson Comedy Club and plenty of music.

Northern Nevada lecturer Mike Thomas will resume his history and science lectures at Jack C. Davis Observatory this week. Thomas is planning to lecture about “Bad History” on Friday, Sept. 7 and “Coincidence” on Saturday, Sept. 8.

It’s going to be a breezy weekend, so you may want to rethink spending the day at the lake. Luckily, plenty of options are available just about anywhere you are. Carson City has a car show and Brewfest hitting the downtown corridor, and to the south, Minden and Gardnerville are having their party of the year: Carson Valley Days. It’s World Doll Day at the Nevada State Museum with special displays, activities, and a special performance by the local Young Chautauquans.

School let out and summer wasted no time getting to the fun stuff. This weekend will bring the Revival Car Show and the annual Capital City Brewfest downtown, in addition to a wine walk at the Carson Mall and the Fair/Rendezvous at Mills Park. Today, you can enjoy some live music at Living the Good Life or Bella Vita Bistro, get your karaoke fix at Whiskey Tavern, or head to the Carson Mall for their monthly cruise night.

Fifty years have elapsed since the release of "2001: A Space Odyssey," which creatively tried to make sense of the past and speculated about the future. Northern Nevada lecturer Mike Thomas will review that 1968 blockbuster film and its impact on a generation during his presentation Saturday, June 9 at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory in Carson City.

Mother’s Day is Sunday, and there will be plenty of ways for the family to enjoy spending time together all weekend long. Treat Mom to some new flowers for the garden at the annual Greenhouse Project Plant Sale. The Nevada State Museum has a day full of cowboy-related activities planned. Head up to Virginia City on the V and T for a memorable ride through the hills. 'Singin in the Rain' is probably one of my favorite movies, but I have no doubt that the Western Nevada Musical Theater Company has taken the classic to new heights. Get tickets now if you'd like to catch their production, they are known for sold-out shows. Funnel cakes, Ferris Wheels, and more are waiting for you at Mills Park. A carnival is a great way to help Mom celebrate her special day.
