Pair of presentations highlight Pearl Harbor and Immortality at WNC Observatory
Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor, as well as the pursuit of immortality, will be featured during a pair of upcoming presentations at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory in Carson City.
The Mike Thomas Lecture Series will present “Pearl Harbor” on Friday, Dec. 7, which is 77 years to the day when Japan’s Navy Air Service attacked the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The surprise early morning aerial attack caused more than 2,400 deaths and provoked the U.S. to enter World War II.
Thomas will talk about Japan’s bold attack on the U.S. fleet and the many stories that came from it.
On Saturday, Dec. 8, Thomas will talk about “Immortality” and the quest to live forever. Thomas’ slide-show presentation will examine the theories concerning the possibility of mankind achieving endless life.
Both presentations start at 6:30 p.m. and are free to the public. Doors to Jack C. Davis Observatory open at 6 p.m.
When presentations aren’t planned, the observatory is open to the public from sundown to 11 p.m. on Saturday nights. At this time, the Western Nevada Astronomical Society leads Star Parties at the observatory, which is located at 2699 Van Patten Drive in Carson City.
