The 13th Annual “Walk in Memory, Walk for Hope” community suicide prevention awareness walk will take place this Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, in 10 different communities across the State of Nevada, including Carson City and Silver Springs.

Saturday, August 31

Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days, which include guided tours at the Nevada State Museum, movie showings at Mills and Schulz Ranch Park, a school supply car cruise and Bingo fundraiser at the Carson Mall, trash pickup at Lake Tahoe, a Rolling Stones tribute band at Carson Nugget, Virginia City’s Labor Day Parade and more!

Heading into Thursday, August 29, 2019 and we're ready and due for the upcoming three-day holiday weekend ahead. Looking around the Carson City area for Thursday there's art showings, a Muscle Powered hike, a Partnership Carson City training and lunch and then a vigil to recognize and prevent opioid overdose and more.

Doug Cramer, the owner of Carson City Mom and Pop’s Diner, has been fighting with the city for two years to keep his gazebo which provides shade for his outdoor patio seating in McFadden’s Plaza.

The Carson City Justice Court originally ruled earlier this year that because Cramer did not have the specific permit needed for the gazebo, and because the gazebo is in the public’s right-of-way, he would need to take it down.

Saturday, August 24

The public is invited to a candlelight vigil Thursday at Bob McFadden Plaza in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day.

“The opioid epidemic is so huge, even in a town of our size,” said Samantha Szoyka, the youth program and outreach coordinator for Partnership Carson City. “As a community, we are starting to talk about it, but people still don’t know what resources are available to them or how they can connect with those resources.”

The vigil, which begins at 7 p.m., will feature a guest speaker and booths distributing information.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including HopeFest9 on Friday, dirt bike races at Fuji Park, a job fair at Eagle Valley Children's Home, and the final weekend of the Jazz and Beyond festival and Levitt AMP outdoor concert series at the Brewery Arts Center.

Coming up on Thursday, August 22, 2019, we can expect continued sunny skies with a daytime near 90. Among upcoming events: Thursday is the final day of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center. Take in a film screening and talk to the filmmakers who made them. There's a Polka Dot Powerhouse Carson City lunch connect at Red's Old 395 Grill, plus Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park and a volunteer expo hosted by Leadership Douglas County. There's also a discussion about aviation history and trends at the Nevada State Museum, a Carson City GOP information meeting on Block Chain technology, Jazz and Beyond music festival events and more. Having made it through the first day of school in Carson City, it is onward and upward as we head into Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Events around the area include fitness hikes and bike ride, a free floral design class at Silver City School House, art showings and Congressman Mark Amodei at Casino Fandango. Also featured is the launch of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the community center, a jazz quintet performance at Comma Courtyard and the 115th birthday celebration of Count Basie as part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival. Mile High Jazz Band Association announces that mannequins will be auctioned off by silent auction during Jazz & Beyond concerts. Proceeds benefit Carson City Arts and Culture Coalition's scholarship fund for a student of the arts.

The revitalization of the downtown began in late 2015 with the advent of the "hashtag" CarsonProud promotion that was created to engage and inform locals what to expect as the city progressed with the plans for revitalization. Most of the downtown core has received the “make over” promised.

Moons of Jupiter, a 7 piece dance, r&b, funk, blues and jazz band will make its first live appearance at Bob McFadden Plaza in Carson City on Friday, August 2 from 7-10 p.m. The band is based out of South Lake Tahoe with Carson City local Myke Smith on the saxes and lead vocals.

Heading into the Independence Day holiday weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to keep the next three days jam-packed with excitement.

The Fourth of July will be colored with parades, barbecues, carnivals, concerts and plenty of fireworks around Carson City, Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and Virginia City.

Hosted by Epic Rides, Carson City Off-Road races weren’t the only venues that kicked-off a jam-packed weekend in the state capital’s downtown on Saturday.

Several booths, food, and refreshments joined a pair of live performances to bring even more heat to a warm summer day in Carson City.
