Carson City District Court rules diner must tear down gazebo on McFadden Plaza
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Wed, 08/28/2019 - 4:56pmDoug Cramer, the owner of Carson City Mom and Pop’s Diner, has been fighting with the city for two years to keep his gazebo which provides shade for his outdoor patio seating in McFadden’s Plaza.
The Carson City Justice Court originally ruled earlier this year that because Cramer did not have the specific permit needed for the gazebo, and because the gazebo is in the public’s right-of-way, he would need to take it down.

Vigil planned to recognize and prevent opioid overdose; training provided Thursday
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Fri, 08/23/2019 - 3:52pmThe public is invited to a candlelight vigil Thursday at Bob McFadden Plaza in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day.
“The opioid epidemic is so huge, even in a town of our size,” said Samantha Szoyka, the youth program and outreach coordinator for Partnership Carson City. “As a community, we are starting to talk about it, but people still don’t know what resources are available to them or how they can connect with those resources.”
The vigil, which begins at 7 p.m., will feature a guest speaker and booths distributing information.

The revitalization of the downtown began in late 2015 with the advent of the "hashtag" CarsonProud promotion that was created to engage and inform locals what to expect as the city progressed with the plans for revitalization. Most of the downtown core has received the “make over” promised.
