The Fourth Annual Early Childhood Expo scheduled for Saturday, March 3 at the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada has been canceled because of expected inclement weather, Carson City School District Public Information Officer Dan Davis said.

I’m going to apologize right now. I can’t anticipate what this storm system will throw at us, so some of these planned events could get cancelled. One event that is never afraid of Mother Nature is the Downtown Carson City Wine Walk. Come rain, shine, or blizzard, you’ll find can sip, stroll, and discover starting at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Carson Hot Springs aren’t afraid of a little snow, and a special visit from Megan the Mermaid will make the icy hot experience more memorable. The Capital City Community Band will be performing its annual “A Salute to Young Musicians” free concert on Sunday, March 4 at 3 p.m. in the amphitheater at the Bob Boldrick Theater of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street in Carson City.

Multi-talented music industry entrepreneur David Victor, formerly of the classic rock band BOSTON, returns to Northern Nevada on Saturday, March 17 to perform with his tribute act Bostyx.

The cancellation of classes and activities at Carson High School Friday does not include the long-anticipated and carefully planned annual Mr. Carson High pageant scheduled for March 2 at 6:30 p.m. inside the Carson City Community Center, Carson City School District Public Information Officer Dan Davis said.

Friday's inclement weather has caused William Smith's artist reception at the Carson City Art Gallery to be postponed until next Friday, March 9 from 4-7 p.m.

The snow finally fell, and continues to fall. The Carson City and Douglas County School Districts have closed all schools due to the weather; Lyon County Schools are on a two hour delay. On Wednesday, March 14, the Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) will present a talk by Carson City’s Arts & Culture Director Mark Salinas.

His illustrated talk, "Choices, Chances, and Changes," is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors series and will take place at 6 p.m. at the Union restaurant, 302 W. Proctor St in Carson City.

There will be an informal reception for Salinas preceding the event at 5:30 p.m. No tickets needed; the public is cordially invited.

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, "Works: Some Water Some Welded," with artwork by artists Susan Glaser Church and Stephen Reid at the city’s Sierra Room located in the Community Center, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The exhibition is available to the public from March 2 – June 30, 2018. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Friday, March 2, 5-7pm in the Sierra Room.

The Association of Latin American Students and nursing students are hosting WNC’s annual Easter Fiesta on Saturday, March 31, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Festivities will take place in Rotary Plaza on the Carson City campus, including an egg scramble on the ball field at 1 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public; tickets for games can be purchased for $1 per ticket. Proceeds help fund student scholarships.

A service commemorating the life of long time Carson City teacher and coach Shane Quilling will be held at Carson High School on Saturday, March 17 at 2 p.m., according to teachers and staff.

Carson City and Nevada’s law enforcement officers participating in the Joining Forces program will be working to keep the roads safe by watching for drivers exceeding speed limits. This Joining Forces enforcement will take place Friday through March 18.

As I write this, the snow has not yet begun to fall. I cannot predict whether we’ll see one inch or seven inches on the valley floor over the next few days, but wet roads make for a more dangerous journey. Please stay safe out there. The Carson City School District is asking parents to mark their calendars for Monday, March 5, to register children who will be 5-years-old by Sept. 30, 2018, and eligible for Kindergarten for the coming 2018-2019 school year.

Join us for the Dayton Valley Branch Library book sale on Friday and Saturday, March 9 and 10, 2018 at the Dayton Valley Branch Library at 321 Old Dayton Valley Road (across from the Junior High school). The sale will open at 9:00 AM on Friday and close at 5:00 PM. Saturday hours are 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM.

There will be a large inventory of donated books available for sale. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Dayton Valley Branch Library. All proceeds benefit the local branch library and the Lyon County Library System as a whole.
