Gov. Steve Sisolak has ordered — not asked — all nonessential businesses in the state to shut down and cease operations at midnight Friday as part of a monthlong closure to avoid further spread of the novel coronavirus.

But what exactly is an “essential” or “nonessential” business?

Gov. Steve Sisolak has issued a broad emergency directive ordering, not asking, all non-essential businesses in the state to close effective midnight on Friday, the latest drastic step taken by the state to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles has closed its field offices statewide and many of the centralized services in Carson City, including the call center, effective 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 17. The department has taken the action to help mitigate the possible spread of COVID-19 among state employees, their families, and the general public.

Carson City officials are continuously monitoring the level of risk of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) to the community. In close coordination with Carson City Health and Human Services, the City Manager’s Office along with City departments in an abundance of caution are coordinating the closure of some offices to take additional measures to slow the spread of respiratory viruses. A 60-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Tuesday morning in the 1600 block of Airport Road for misdemeanor suspicion of disturbing the peace.

UPDATE: A credible tip surfaced Thursday afternoon regarding the suspect vehicle, a sheriff's office detective said. The vehicle is a tan or beige 2010-2012 Mercedes SUV, with dark tinted windows. The vehicle was without a front license plate and its back plate is possibly California. The vehicle circled the daycare parking lot multiple times, where the suspect then is believed to have parked across the street before entering the victim's vehicle.
