The Indy Explains: What ‘essential’ businesses can still operate in Nevada after coronavirus shutdown?

Gov. Steve Sisolak has ordered — not asked — all nonessential businesses in the state to shut down and cease operations at midnight Friday as part of a monthlong closure to avoid further spread of the novel coronavirus.

But what exactly is an “essential” or “nonessential” business?

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles has closed its field offices statewide and many of the centralized services in Carson City, including the call center, effective 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 17. The department has taken the action to help mitigate the possible spread of COVID-19 among state employees, their families, and the general public.

Suspect who stole purse, credit cards from car at daycare center sought by Carson City detectives

UPDATE: A credible tip surfaced Thursday afternoon regarding the suspect vehicle, a sheriff's office detective said. The vehicle is a tan or beige 2010-2012 Mercedes SUV, with dark tinted windows. The vehicle was without a front license plate and its back plate is possibly California. The vehicle circled the daycare parking lot multiple times, where the suspect then is believed to have parked across the street before entering the victim's vehicle.
