A reward is being offered after windows were shot out at two Gardnerville locations, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

The first incident occurred on May 23 at approximately 10:05 p.m, when a victim was driving north on Tillman Lane. As the driver passed Jobs Peak he heard the driver’s side rear glass panel shatter, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Pat Brooks. During the investigation it appears the damage to the window was consistent with a BB gun or similar round.

Unemployment in Carson City fell by 2.5 percentage points to 7.8 percent in April, after employers added 300 jobs between March and April making it one of the best metro areas for job growth in the state, according to figures released Friday by Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

In April, Nevada’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 8 percent, down from 8.5 percent in March. This is the largest drop the state has seen in its unemployment rate since 1983. The number of unemployed fell from 117,300 in March to 110,000 in April.

Jobless claims in Nevada continue to fall, with 14,931 people filing for unemployment insurance in April, a 15 percent decrease compared to 2013 figures, according to numbers released Thursday by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Initial claims have fallen compared to the previous year for 17 straight months and in 50 of the past 53 months, said Bill Anderson, chief economist for Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Nevada drivers will have to live with increasing road congestion and multi-year delays to critical highway projects if congress does not act by September to address a looming federal highway funding shortfall, state officials were told Monday.

A two percent (2%) gross receipts tax is estimated to cost Nevada 9,000 jobs and will make Nevada one of the highest corporate tax states in the country. Equivalent to ~15% corporate income tax (CA has 8.8% corporate income tax).

I had an opportunity to interview Democratic candidate for Governor of Nevada, John P. Rutledge. He has been a supporter of the Downtown 20/20 organization, and has long been devoted to seeing our great and beautiful city grow and prosper.

March unemployment was down slightly in Carson City and Lyon County, but inched upward in Douglas, according to figures released Monday from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Unemployment dropped to 9.8 in Carson City, down from 9.9 percent in February and 10.3 percent in January. In Lyon County the March unemployment rate was 12.6 percent, down from February's 12.7 percent and January's 13.1 percent.

Nevada’s unemployment rate remained at a seasonally-adjusted 8.5 percent for March, the same as February, and down from 10.2 percent year-over-year, according to figures released Friday from the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

March figure equates to 117,000 Nevadans out of work. Metro area unemployment rates for Carson City, Reno and Las Vegas will be available next week.

Co-owner Scott Foster — who runs Foster Machining with his brother Timothy — said the company outgrew the 7,500 square-foot space it was renting, and turned to NSDC to buy a building that could more comfortably house its 20 employees and the shop and office space they needed.

A home care provider was booked Friday into Carson City Jail on three felony warrants charges involving burglary, grand larceny and possession of stolen property.

Ella May Dix, 50, of Reno was taken into custody by the Carson City Sheriff's Office after the woman arrived at the front counter for the warrants. The three felony charges are out of Las Vegas Justice Court and issued Jan. 15, 2014. Bail: $80,000.

East Fork Fire and Paramedic Districts responded at 6 a.m. Tuesday to a structure fire in the 400 block of Natures Edge in the Jobs Peak residential area of Gardnerville.

East Fork committed 36 firefighter personnel and 4 chief officers, staffing 6 engines, 3 rescues, 1 heavy rescue and 4 brush trucks to this fire. The fire was a difficult fire to control due the type of heavy timber construction and metal roofing on parts of the structure.
