CARSON CITY — The Nevada National Guard is set to host its 20th annual Flag Day and U.S. Army’s 243rd birthday celebration 10 a.m. June 14 at the Nevada Veterans Memorial on Capitol grounds, 101 N. Carson St.

RENO — Nevada Humanities celebrates the 26th anniversary season of Great Basin Young Chautauqua with the Great Basin Young Chautauqua Showcase.

This first weekend of June packs quite a punch: activities and events abound. Head downtown for the first Third and Curry Farmers Market of the season, then wander a few blocks north for Due Sorella’s Spring Vintage Market. You may as well just keep the car parked. With the monthly Wine Walk, Pour for Paws in McFadden Plaza, and Crystal’s Crusade Street Party Fundraiser on W. Telegraph, downtown is the place to be. There are so many options this weekend, so take a gander and enjoy your weekend.

On January 30, 2018 Betty Block (Rowe) a long-term resident of Carson City left us at the age of 87. Born in Bronxville, NY on September 18, 1930, Betty was raised in Scarsdale, NY, spending all of her childhood summers in Orient Point, NY. Betty attended Scarsdale High and graduated from Dana Hall preparatory school. She attained a B.A. Degree in Mathematics at Vassar College. It was there that she was better known by her classmates as “Betty Boop.”

I hate to be a tease, but I just have to say something about this upcoming weekend. Friday night brings us the Fox Brewpub's first summer concert featuring Shane Dwight in McFadden Plaza, the Broncs and Bulls Smackdown at Fuji Park, or the kick off to Street Vibrations Spring Rally at Battle Born Harley. Saturday welcomes the first Third and Curry Farmers Market of the year, the monthly Wine Walk, and Dayton’s annual Oodles of Noodles Festival and Pasta Cook-off.

CARSON CITY — Spiritual leaders from the Paiute, Washoe and Western Shoshone tribes will conduct a special blessing ceremony at site of the future Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum on Wednesday, July 11.

The iconic blue line marking the Kit Carson Trail that winds its way through the west side historic district of Carson City will be replaced by another way-finding method, said Carson City Public Works Senior Transportation Planner Dirk Goering.

Families will have a hard time choosing between the Cops and Kids Open House and Safety Fair at the Sheriff’s Office and the ‘Kids to Parks’ Day activities at Silver Saddle Ranch. Nadia Hill, an eighth-grade student at Eagle Valley Middle School in Carson City, has won the 2018 Discover Your Nevada essay contest, Nevada State Superintendent Steve Canavero announced Wednesday.

Mother Nature could not have picked a better weekend for sunshine and warm temperatures in the Nevada state capital as Carson City celebrated Earth Day with a garden festival Sunday at the historic Foreman-Roberts House, 1207 North Carson Street.
