Carson Valley Medical Center Great Outdoors Health Fair Oct. 20

Carson Valley Medical Center has moved its annual community health fair to the middle of autumn, with this year’s event scheduled to take place Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon on its main campus, 1107 Highway 395 N in Gardnerville.

Two arrested outside Walmart in Gardnerville after deputies recover stolen vehicle, marijuana

Two from California with warrants were arrested Monday outside the Walmart store in Gardnerville after leading Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies on a vehicle chase in which the stolen SUV they were driving was abandoned and found to contain 5 pounds of marijuana.

Firefighters knock down brush fire near Airport Road in Douglas County

East Fork Fire Protection District in Douglas County responded Wednesday afternoon to a brush fire burning in the area of a controlled burn near the Minden-Tahoe Airport. It was reportedly knocked down at around 4:30 p.m., according to a battalion chief on scene.

Carson Valley Medical Center Adds Cardiac Monitoring Service

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — Carson Valley Medical Center, located at 1107 Highway 395 N in Gardnerville, recently added Holter monitoring services to its EKG department.

The test, which must be ordered by a physician, monitors the patient’s heart rhythm for 24 to 48 hours. The Holter monitor is a small device -- about the size of a pager-- with three electrodes that record the patient’s heart rhythm.

The technicians at CVMC will schedule the patient to come in and have the Holter monitor applied. The monitor is then worn continuously for the period of time indicated by the physician.

Boot Fire Update: Mandatory evacuations reduced, Marines to return to Warfare Training Center

Highway 395 and 108 continue to remain open for traffic as progress continues on the Boot Fire, which has burned 6,898 acres and is 39 percent contained as of Sunday morning.

Boot Fire closes area for public health, safety

Due to the Boot Fire, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest has issued a closure order within and around the burned area on the Bridgeport Ranger District.

Hot and windy conditions are creating extreme fire behavior on the Boot Fire that is burning nine miles southwest of Walker, California.

Highway 395 from Walker to Bridgeport and State Route 108 over Sonora Pass remain closed Thursday due to the Boot Fire, which remains out of control and burning along the Walker River northwest of Bridgeport in Mono County, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
