Heading into the weekend, there’s plenty of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. Events include an artists fair at Carson Mall, the 60th annual camel and ostrich races in Virginia City, a memorial run in Carson City, the 28th annual Oktoberfest in Gardnerville, a Veterans Resource Fair at Carson Nugget, history walks at Mormon Station Park, live comedy and more.

Mormon Station State Historic Park is offering a number of exciting interpretive programs this September. Join park staff in the heart of the Genoa National Historic District for history talks, guided walks, and other fun activities!

Heading into midweek, Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019 and there's a chance of thunderstorms around the capital city with a cool down expected for the weekend. Looking ahead there's a new writer's group meeting — all aspiring wordsmiths welcome, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center, art demonstrations and more. Enjoy the day.

Heading into Monday, Labor Day 2019, we're looking at continued sunny skies, with daytime highs in the low 90s. There's no better place than Virginia City for a parade, and the Comstock continues to honor those who use elbow grease to keep the gears of our great American way grinding. Thank you. Other activities include a Tahoe beach cleanup, art showings, swing dancing and an interfaith picnic at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Carson City, where folks of all religious stripes come together in fellowship and kindness. We're heading into the midweek, Wednesday, August 21, 2019 with sunny skies and activities throughout the day including day 2 of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center, Jazz and Beyond festival performances to complement Wheeled Food Wednesday at the BAC followed by a classic outdoor movie to boot, "West Side Story." There's a new group for writers that meets at the Brewery Arts Center; a salary negotiation workshop at WNC, a chautauqua and author presentations at Dangberg Historic Park. We're looking at plenty of sunshine, warm temperatures and an extraordinary musical lineup today at Eagle Valley Golf Course in Carson City for the 11th annual Concert Under the Stars benefit for The Greenhouse Project. There's also art showings, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the BAC and more.

With a windy cool down headed our way, activities around the Carson City area Wednesday, June 26 will make for a breezy good time. Looking at the day ahead there's a walk hosted by parks and recreation, kids events, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center, a free "rough cut" feature film screening at the Carson Nugget, Young Chautauquans at Dangberg Historic Park and more.

The annual Camp Carson program for kindergarten through 6th grade children through Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is now open for registration with camp beginning June 17.

Heading into the middle of the work week, Wednesday, May 22, there's no short supply of places to go and things to do around Carson City. Sure you may want to pull out your parkas or sweaters for the day. All the more reason to take in those rays of sunshine when the clouds break. Recently, several CHS freshman Biology classes had the opportunity to work with fourth graders from Empire Elementary in Carson City. Students learned about conservation, the water cycle, and the Carson River watershed. CHS students, trained by the River Wranglers conservation group, and on a very windy day, met up with Empire Elementary students at Baily Pond.

As we head into the middle of the month many of us haven't turned on the air conditioner because the weather outside has been comfortably, pleasantly air conditioned these past few weeks. And now with valley rain, wind and Sierra snow on the way, we tip our hat to one Carson Now reader, LaNair, who pledged he wouldn't turn on their heater these next few days because, well, it is May after all. Good day Carson City and welcome to Wednesday, May 8, 2019. We're looking at another day of sunshine and afternoon highs in the low 70s. We have activities throughout the region today, including a history presentation in Dayton, a Holocaust memorial service at the Governor's Mansion, art classes, live jazz and more. We want to send a big birthday "shoutout" to our outdoor editor emeritus Don Quilici, who turns 85 today. Don and his wife, Elaine, remain active, maintain healthy walks and hikes around the region and have plans for yet another Alaska outback trip this summer. Happy Birthday Q!

Sierra Lutheran High School, in collaboration with Bethlehem Lutheran Church and School and Mt. Cross Ministries, has released its 2019 Summer Programs registration. Collectively, the three entities will offer seven unique summer programs, including two week-long overnight programs.

Truly a springtime to remember in Carson City as we say goodbye to April, which leaves us with a spontaneous final chill, and hello to Wednesday, May 1, 2019. Temperatures should head back up into the low 60s by afternoon. Looking ahead there's art showings and painting workshops, a C-Hill hike to see the firefighting sheep, a school district strategic planning meeting, a Salsa dance class, and "Ideas on Tap," a monthly series of interactive conversations at The Union Eatery and Taphouse.

Going into the midweek, Wednesday, April 17, 2019, we're looking at a gradual warming trend, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 70. Events and activities are lined up for the day including art workshops, library presentations, live music and more.

During its lunch meeting on April 24, Carson City Soroptimist will present the Ruby Award to Susan Sorenson, the founder and director of the Northern Nevada Dream Center.
