Activities ahead around the capital city feature a workshop by Carson City TRIAD to prepare residents for Medicare open enrollment, a Muscle Powered led afternoon hike at Sedge Road, the grand opening of My Place Hotel, modern western square dancing lessons, art showings, library activities and more. Long overdue, there’s a new place in Carson City that will be able to comfortably house visitors — and that means friends and family who want to stay more than a few days in your place — in a comfortable home-like setting. You know what Ben Franklin said about visitors staying more than three days: “Fish and visitors stink after three days.”

Through the month of October, Michael Hohl Motor Company in Carson City will collect pet food donations to fill a pickup truck with pet food to support Pets of the Homeless. The dealership will donate all supplies to Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, rural northern Nevada’s largest social services program.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum Carson City is packing a whole lot of family fun into its annual Harvest Train festivities this year.

Hello from CHS in Carson City. I want to share this information with you so that you may be able to come and support our many students participating in Fall Sports. The list below has upcoming events for each sport in which our new Athletic Leadership Council is going to push out to their teams and friends to come support one another. In the spirit of unity, we want to reach out to both the staff and community to invite all of you to do the same.

With the closing of Cafe at Adele’s, Carson City and its community will witness the end of an era.

This decision by owners Chef Charlie and Karen Abowd, comes in the wake of a fire that occurred March 28, and the subsequent inability to negotiate a settlement with the insurance company that would cover reconstruction costs.

The Friends of the Carson City Library, with the library board and staff, are offering a meet and greet with the new library director, Tod Colegrove, on Friday, October 11 from 4:30p.m. to 6 p.m.

No RSVP is required to meet the new director. Those interested should simply head over to the library digitorium located at 900 N. Roop St. for an opportunity to get to know Colegrove more over coffee and a treat.

Events include the 30th annual Outhouse Races in Virginia City, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event in Carson City, Fright Night at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, Oktoberfest at the Casino Fandango, the 26th annual 'Making a Difference' Golf Tournament and much more!

Sunny skies ahead as we edge closer to the weekend with activities lined up for Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019 around Carson City including modern western square dancing lessons, an afternoon hike led by Muscle Powered along the Virginia and Truckee north trail, art showings, library activities and more. With October designated Breast Cancer Awareness Month, dozens joined Carson Tahoe Health for its 18th "Think Pink" breast cancer awareness event held Tuesday at Red's Old 395 Grill in Carson City, which hosts and sponsors the annual event.

How has cancer affected you and is there anything you can do? Join your family, friends, neighbors and people from your community as we walk Relay for Life of Carson City/Douglas County this Saturday Oct. 5 from 1 to 9 p.m. at Mills Park.

Nevada Raider Nation - Carson City Chapter will host a game watch of the Oakland Raiders vs Chicago Bears at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 at Jimmy G's, 301 N. Carson St., in Carson City.

The game, televised live from London, will be shown on three TV screens. New members are welcome to watch with the veterans, and are welcome to join. Membership is $20 per person.

Many types of people make up the fabric of Carson City and in my quest to learn why people are CarsonProud, I enjoy going to the many wonderful events that seem to be held every weekend. I recently attended the the 50th Anniversary of the Nevada Historical Society where time stood still for a moment or two as artists came together at the historical Foreman-Roberts House to showcase talents that have withstood the test of time.

CARSON CITY — Get ready for more beer, brats and oompah bands! The Casino Fandango 6th annual Oktoberfest is Saturday, Oct. 5 and Sunday, Oct. 6. This annual event will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and admission is free.

National Honor Society held its induction ceremony Sept. 23 in the CHS Big Gym featuring guest speaker Ryan Costella a 2000 CHS graduate. Costella was an active member of NHS, and this fact influenced his desire to attend college at Villanova University in Philadelphia, PA where he earned degrees in Political Science and English.

Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators have three people in custody who are alleged to have been involved in a residential burglary where several firearms, among other things, were stolen.

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. — Fort Churchill State Historic Park is offering a variety of ranger-led programs during the month of October. Programs highlight the area’s rich history and abundant natural resources.

Homecoming, first seen in 1911 at the University of Missouri, is a wonderful event celebrated throughout the US at high schools and colleges. Homecoming is more than just a football game, it encompasses multiple celebratory events such as bonfires, tailgate parties, dances, and the crowning of a King and Queen. Fall is in the air in Carson City, and a change in the weather was one more reason for kids and adults alike to get out and celebrate this year’s Disney themed Happiest Homecoming on Earth.

The Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch invite you to the annual Pancake Breakfast Saturday, September 21st. A guided Bird Walk starts the day at 7 a.m.

At 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and Noon, a short presentation on the history of Silver Saddle will be at the Red House.

David Wise, age 82, passed away on August 29, 2019. Dave was a 2nd generation Nevadan born in Carson City on July 14, 1937 to Roy and Lynn (Stewart) Wise. He was an amazing man who loved life, he was easy going, caring, funny, loving, and always had the most positive attitude. He was always smiling, even in the end.

He was so well liked, loved by others and had so many friends who thought highly of him. He loved his family and his extended family who just simply became his family.

Carson City Aquatic Facility will hold its annual Pooch Plunge pool party this Saturday to help support Critter Fixer, Carson Animal Services Initiative’s low cost spay and neuter voucher program.

The Carson City School District’s quarterly Community PLC (Professional Learning Community) meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 25, 6 p.m., will offer a report from the Citizen Committee for 1600 Snyder. The meeting, held inside the Carson High School Library, will be the first meeting of the 2019-2020 school year.
