UPDATE: There's a star party late Monday night into Tuesday morning hosted by Carson City Parks and Recreation and Open Space. For summer’s most visible meteor showers, join the Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space Department at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory for some late night, educational fun. No pre-registration necessary. Please wear close-toed shoes and bring water for night hiking from the Observatory. Head lamps and flashlights are allowed. Parking at the Observatory can be found at 2699 Vanpatten Ave, Carson City. Please call (775) 281-7711 with any questions. This upcoming Monday is the Aquariids Viewing Party starting at 12:00 a.m. Tuesday (technically Monday night).

Heading into Monday, July 29, 2019 and we're wondering how the month went by so quickly. Again we're looking at a fairly typical end of July day weather wise, with sunny skies and a high around 94. Mormon Station State Historic Park to host Guided Walking Tours of Genoa on July 27 & 28

Mormon Station is located in the heart of the Genoa National Historic District, which encompasses over 25 structures and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Join a Park Ranger for a guided walking tour throughout a portion of the historic district. During the approximately one-mile roundtrip walk, we will discuss the significance of the structures located along the route.

Good morning Carson City, and happy Saturday! It'll be a bit warmer than yesterday with a high of 86 and a low of 51, and you can expect a bit of a breeze with 13 mph winds.

There's a lot going on today in our beautiful Capital City, with day two of Epic Rides, the Carson City Airport Open House and Wing Cook-off, the farmer's market, a youth expo, and more.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area to help the next three days breeze by. There's a morning Muscle Powered walk, plus the Nevada State Museum will host 2 behind the scenes tours in natural history and anthropology. Plus, the fourth annual Carson City Off-Road kicks off its three-day event with a Capital 15 Fun Ride and Free Clunker Crit Ride. Heading into the evening, “Newsies” will take stage at the Carson City Community Center and you can sit under the stars and watch “The Little Rascals” at 8 p.m. during movie night at John Mankins Park.

Entry to the event is free to the public and draws thousands of visitors annually. Proceeds from new programming will benefit local non-profit, Eagle Valley Children's Home.

Cross-country skiing returns to Spooner Lake State Park

Once again, Spooner Lake State park offers outdoor sport enthusiasts a system of meandering cross-country ski trails that wind through dense forest, across an open meadow and along the banks of Spooner Lake.

This trail system is free to the public and made possible by a partnership between Nevada State Parks and Nevada Nordic, a non-profit group based in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Let’s give this outdoors thing another try. Yesterday’s Jazz and beyond performances were moved indoors at the Brewery Arts Center when the rain hit, but I have more hope for today’s skies. Look for The Other Brothers Band this evening in the Comma Coffee Courtyard. Carson City BMX hosts practice and racing at the track in the Livermore Sports Complex; all ages are invited to participate, and one day memberships are available for those who’d like to try it out.
