After collecting as many pottery bowls as possible throughout the year, the local Empty Bowls Project is holding its annual fundraiser Friday, Dec. 2 at the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Carson City to deliver a blow to hunger in the community.

Hello fellow anglers, We only have a few days left to fish many of our local waters. On Tuesday, Nov. 15 the California fishing season will come to an end for the majority of the rivers and streams, as well as the lakes in Inyo and Mono counties.

The school staff of Bethlehem Lutheran in Carson City challenged their students to raise more than 7,000 cans of food to help FISH provide for those in need with their "Trick or Treat for F.I.S.H." campaign.

The Harvest Train Festival and Pumpkin Patch at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to start. Take the costumed kids to a Trunk or Treat at Advantage Auto Works off Old Hot Springs Road courtesy of the members of Carson Cruise Meet and Greet. I’m usually a lover of sunny days, but right now I say bring on the rain. The moisture is a welcome help to our heroic firefighters in Lake Tahoe and Washoe Valley. Because of the wet weather and the recent fires, some activities have been postponed: most notably the Advocates to End Domestic Violence’s Annual Light After Dark Run. There are still plenty of things to occupy your time, but the weather may force more cancellations.

Before the football games, the big meal and the pies, why not get in a little run with a few hundred of your neighbors Thanksgiving morning? The Carson City Turkey Trot is an event the entire family will enjoy and is on its way to becoming a local tradition.

Beginning Saturday and running the entire month of October, Michael Hohl Motor Company in Carson City hosts its third annual "Give A Dog A Bone" pet food drive for the nonprofit organization Pets of the Homeless.

Hello fellow anglers, I can tell you where there will be plenty of fish this weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 1-2, is the Kokanee Salmon festival at Taylor Creek located on Highway 89, a half mile north of Camp Richardson on the south end of Lake Tahoe.

During the 2014 Kokanee salmon run at the U.S. Forest Service's Taylor Creek Visitor Center in South Lake Tahoe, many visitors attempted to get a "selfie" with the bears who frequent the area in search of the colorful fish to add to their daily calorie intake before winter hibernation.

Fire restrictions on public land in Western Nevada, in place since June 30, will be lifted this Friday, Sept. 30, agency managers announced Wednesday. The Carson City Fire Department, however, has no intention at this time of lifting fire restrictions within the city limits.

There were tears, smiles and applause as a Golden Eagle was released Sunday over Red Lake after being rehabilitated by Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care for the past month.

The U.S. Senate on Thursday passed the Lake Tahoe Restoration Act as part of the Water Resources Development Act of 2016. The bipartisan legislation provides federal, state and local partners important tools to reduce wildfire threats, improve water clarity, jumpstart innovative infrastructure projects, and combat invasive species.

In case you missed it, the Washoe County Health District recently put out a notice that multiple bats infected with rabies were found in Washoe County.

In one of the cases, four domestic pets came into contact with one of the rabid bats. It’s a situation no one wants to think about, and one that hasn’t happened in Washoe County in decades, but it’s time to remind people about the importance of vaccinating their pets and why it’s so important to everyone around you.

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, Silver State Swimmer, with artwork by Michael Malley at the city’s Sierra Room located in the Community Center, 851 E William Street, Carson City. CCAI will host a reception for the artist on Friday, Sept. 9, 5-7pm in the Sierra Room. The free exhibition is available to the public through November 10, 2016.
