It's Your City: Sierra Nevada Ballet director talks about organization, upcoming Brew, Brats and Ballet

This week's edition of It's Your City with host Cortney Bloomer features Rosine Bena, the artistic director of Sierra Nevada Ballet. Celebrating the company's 15th year, the two discuss the organization, its history, the Sierra Nevada Ballet Academy and upcoming Brew, Brats and Ballet performances around the Northern Nevada region.

The Carson City area BMX community has launched its annual Race For Life campaign to help raise money in the fight to find a cure for blood-related cancers.

Racers and their families can pick up collection envelopes and begin collecting donations from friends, relatives, neighbors and businesses in the community. Helping others is one of the finest things anyone can ever do in life.

NHP to step up seatbelt enforcement through May

The Nevada Highway Patrol will be looking for motorists and occupants who are not buckled up while traveling. During this time, the Highway Patrol will be Joining Forces looking for drivers and other occupants in vehicles who are not wearing their seatbelts and/or children who are not properly in car or booster seat(s).

I created a group called Concerned Voters in Northern Nevada and it is for people from all political parties to get together and talk about local politics, issues, networking, debate each other, make friends, come up with ideas and also speak with candidates and elected officials.

It is for Carson, Minden, Gardnerville, Dayton, Reno, and Lake Tahoe. Anyone is welcome to join no matter what their political affiliation is.

I just created a group called Local Businesses of Northern Nevada to help support and get the word out about locally owned and operated businesses here in Carson, Minden, Gardnerville, Dayton, Lake Tahoe and Reno.

Carson City Vet Council discusses changes at meeting

Members of the Carson City Veterans Community Council (CCVCC) met Wednesday afternoon to discuss changes within existing member organizations, as well as to welcome new members onto the council.

Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell and City Manager Nick Marano, both veterans, attended Wednesday's meeting and highlighted changes to the city's new, improved web site scheduled to go public by the end of May.

Senator Square: Foreign Affairs: Making a Home Away From Home

(Editor’s Note: The following story will appear in the spring edition of The Senator News, CHS’s newspaper. The story was written by staff writer Dominick DeLise, a sophomore at CHS.)

This August, two 2016 CHS graduates, and a student who finished her sophomore year, will begin another year of high school in a new country, learning a new language, and living with a different family.

Seniors MacKenzie Gilliam and Delaney Fine, and sophomore Alexa Conrad, were chosen for the Rotary exchange program. Gilliam will be going to Italy, Fine to Belgium and Conrad to Leon, France.

Annual Carson City Historic Preservation Scavenger Hunt begins Monday

In celebration of Historic Preservation Month, the Carson City Historic Resources Commission will hold its 7th annual Historic Preservation Scavenger Hunt beginning Monday and running through May 31.

Roundup scheduled for prescription drugs and hypodermic needles

Volunteers will be collecting unused or outdated prescription medications, along with hypodermic needles, at three Carson City locations on Saturday.

WNC to host Carson City community walk Saturday to spotlight sexual assault

Western Nevada College student leaders are serious about preventing sexual assault in our society. To bring awareness to the problem, they will lead a free public Sexual Assault Awareness Walk on Saturday, April 30, 10 am.

The 2.3 mile round-trip walk will begin in the parking lot just south of the Bully’s Restaurant at 3530 N. Carson St, at the intersection of U.S. Hwy 395 and West College Parkway in Carson City.

A report on the April 25 meeting on The Vintage At Kings Canyon

The project called The Vintage At Kings Canyon was presented by the managers in an open meeting at the Fritsch School on April 7th to a crowd estimated at 250-400 people.

On April 25 it was again the topic of another public meeting at the school. This time the meeting was called by the neighbors, and drew over 200 highly interested people, along with the mayor, two candidates for mayor, a supervisor, a candidate for supervisor, a reporter, a retired reporter, and other retired reporter also a candidate for supervisor.
