UNR-led study: Climate change increases lethal dehydration risk in desert songbirds

Nevada Ag Department: Band of 16 wild horses in Carson City to be vaccinated and relocated
Submitted by editor on Tue, 02/07/2017 - 2:51pmOn Monday, Feb. 6, the Nevada Department of Agriculture gathered 16 feral horses that were wandering in east Carson City for about three weeks. The horses will be vaccinated with fertility control drugs, as part of an agreement between the NDA and the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign and then relocated to an area south of Highway 50 near Stagecoach.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada host free basketball clinics for kids at the MAC
Submitted by editor on Fri, 02/03/2017 - 2:20amCARSON CITY, Nev. – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada is hosting free basketball dribbling clinics for kids of all ages from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. every Saturday through Feb. 25 at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center at 1870 Russell Way in Carson City.
Drop-in clinics are open to children and teens, and participants need not be Club members.

Ross clothing stores to help Carson City area kids in homework campaign

Boys and Girls Clubs in Carson City unveil Mike Frezzo Tech Center
Submitted by editor on Wed, 02/01/2017 - 4:46pmThe Frezzo family of Washoe Valley honored their son and brother Mike, who passed away from esophageal cancer in 2014, by presenting a naming gift to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada to establish the Mike Frezzo Tech Center for Club members ages 5 to 12.
Katie Leao, chief professional officer for the Club, said the Club’s tech lab had not been updated for over 8 years. The gift includes new furniture and 30 new Chromebook laptops, similar to those used by the Carson City School District.

Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 02/01/2017 - 10:49amLast month, the Carson River breached its banks, crossed a major highway, and transformed commutes up and down the Carson Valley from Reno to Minden, turning a twenty- or thirty-minute scenic drive into a three- or four-hour ordeal.
Then, a series of winter storms dropped over ten feet of snow in parts of the Lake Tahoe Basin. Emergency officials advised residents in both areas to shelter in place to avoid the flood or the blizzard—and for some who live in the valley and work in the basin (or vice versa) — both.

Her illustrated talk, "Painting on the Outside", is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors series and will take place at 7pm at the Community Development building [the Brick], 108 E Proctor St, Carson City. Tahoe RCD Records Largest Stormwater Flows at Monitoring Sites
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 01/25/2017 - 11:47amThe early storm event that began on January 7 with over 5 inches of rain in some regions of the Lake Tahoe Basin before turning to snow, delivered a massive amount of runoff to the Lake in a short period of time.
During this storm event the Tahoe RCD Stormwater Monitoring Program measured the highest flows ever recorded at all eight monitoring locations since monitoring began in 2013. Our Tahoe Valley site, located off Tahoe Keys Blvd, measured 1.5 million cubic feet of flow, nearly 90% of the flow that was observed throughout the whole 2016 water year!
