As the days get longer and warmer, it’s worth it to check out the many trails and paths throughout the valley. Muscle Powered, our local hiking, biking, and trail-building group, leads guided hikes and walks a few times every week, including two on Tuesdays. Don’t let spring break be an excuse not to use your noggin. Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz at Sassafras and DJ Trivia at Fox Brewpub are both open to all ages and free to play. You’ve only got a few days to see the Winter Art Show in the Nevada Artist Association Gallery; their new show, ‘Spring has Sprung,’ will open Sunday.

Do you ever wonder about that old stone house at the eastern entrance to Mills Park? Called the Wungnema House it has interesting history. Take a tour today during the monthly open house, and learn more about the early residents of Carson City. As a child of the 80s, I’m excited about this week’s Flashback Cinema feature at Galaxy Theaters. "The Dark Chrystal" was a favorite of mine. If you’ve got kids, or a pang of nostalgia, catch one of the two showings today, or again Wednesday. Read on for more of what's happening today.

Scoups Ice Cream and Soup Bar has partnered this year with Carson City Classic Cinema Club to bring family-friendly fun to downtown Carson City, Scoups owners Geoffrey and Kimberly Landry said.

The weekend has arrived, and it will be an exceptionally long one for the schoolkids of Carson City: spring break begins Monday. There’s a rumor of snowfall for this weekend, but it’s not expected to be too heavy in the valley. Don’t quote me on that, though, I’ve been wrong before. Break a leg to the Douglas students performing in ‘Game of Tiaras’ this weekend; the show sounds hilarious, but be warned, it’s not for kids. SATURDAY:

We aren’t expecting any rain today, but weather control is well above my pay-grade. The recent downpour filled a few reservoirs around town, including the one at the corner of Roop Street and Little Lane.

The Easter Bunny is coming to the Carson Mall in Carson City on March 31.

Kid-friendly activities start at 3 p.m. A free Easter egg hunt starts at 5 p.m.

Carson City BMX is hoping to start it's 2018 racing season on Sunday, April 1.

Hopefully, Mother Nature will be kind and let the track dry out so that we may complete the prep work.

So, fingers crossed, first race of the season is scheduled for Sunday, April 1 with sign-ups from 9-10 a.m. Racing begins shortly thereafter.

There will be an Easter egg hunt as well as a bunny hop contest. So get your bikes tuned up, find your gear, grab your helmet, and let's race!

The community is invited to sing Messiah along with choir, orchestra and world-class soloists during the live-stream Mormon Tabernacle Choir 2018 Easter Concert on Friday, March 23 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located at 411 N. Saliman Road in Carson City.

A pre-concert feed starts at 6 p.m. The full live-stream event begins at 6:30 p.m.

Let us do the baking for your Easter cookies! Buy a dozen sugar cookies and decorate them with our frosting and sprinkles or take them home and decorate.

This event is Saturday, March 24, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville.

Perfect if you need to take cookies to an Easter gathering or to your child's school.

One dozen cookies is $10 and all proceeds will be donated to Relay for Life Carson City/Douglas County.

Grab some friends or family and craft with us this weekend at The Place to DIY in Carson City! Friday and Saturday, March 16-17 from 12 noon to 7 p.m.

The Association of Latin American Students and nursing students are hosting WNC’s annual Easter Fiesta on Saturday, March 31, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Festivities will take place in Rotary Plaza on the Carson City campus, including an egg scramble on the ball field at 1 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public; tickets for games can be purchased for $1 per ticket. Proceeds help fund student scholarships.

Much of Northern Nevada and Eastern California will be dealing with frigid temperatures and lake effect snow in areas across the region over the next few days, the National Weather Service in Reno reports.

This Bazaar will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Family Church, 1202 Saliman Rd. Carson City, Next to Carson High School.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension 4-H Clubs held their 2016-2017 Awards Night at the Governor’s Mansion Nevada Room on Nov. 15. At least 100 4-H youth from Carson City and Storey County received recognition for their accomplishments during the year.

Captivating audiences from coast to coast, Tintabulations Handbell Ensemble returns to present their 2017 Spring-Summer concert series, "Cam-pa-no-lo-gy, the art or practice of bell ringing."

A homegrown community handbell ensemble, Tintabulations has grown from a small group of artistic director Barb Walsh's students to a nationally and internationally respected and sought after ensemble.

Smack dab in the middle of April and the town is officially in its Spring thaw. Easter is on Sunday, so just about anywhere you go you’ll find the Bunny and an egg hunt. To make it easy, I’ve moved all of those events to their own everything Easter list HERE.

So much is happening this weekend, that breaking my weekend list up seemed like the only thing to do. Eggs galore, brunches, and family friendly fun is what you’ll find here. Whether you’re in Carson, Douglas, Dayton, or Virginia City – there’s something fun just around the corner. Celebrate the Easter season with the family. The Association of Latin American Students at Western Nevada College will host the eighth annual Easter Fiesta on Saturday, April 15, 10 am to 3 pm at Rotary Plaza at the WNC Carson City campus.

With Easter just days away, the bonnets, baskets, eggs, and bunnies are about to descend. Here is a sneak peek at where to find the fun in Carson City, Douglas, Dayton, and Virginia City. Most all of the egg hunts are free, but I've made sure to include an entry price if one exists. I’ve listed them by start time, and have the town listed first to make an event near you easy to locate.

SATURDAY, April 15:

The week winds to a close, but the events are all gearing up. Today kicks off the three-day High School Rodeo at the Douglas Fairgrounds, and if all goes well, it should remain dry for our local ropers and riders. Kids will want to test their skill at the ‘Pitch, Hit, Run’ Competition at the Boys and Girls Club. Secret Agents are the topic at the monthly Mike Thompson Lecture at the Plaza Hotel if you’re looking for intrigue.

Come learn about culture and diversity in Carson City through, song, dance, and crafts! We will be making Egg Maracas for the kids to take home in this Diversity in Action program.

Easter weekend is almost upon us and there are a multitude of egg hunts and festivities to choose from. Whether you live in Carson City, Dayton, or Douglas County or fancy the Easter bonnet and pet parade in Virginia City, there’s something in your neighborhood. Nine years ago, the Kiwanis Club of Carson City, established in 1959, were approached by the Jaycee’s of Carson City. For 30 years they had sponsored and provided the annual Easter Egg Hunt, primarily at Governor’s Field on Easter Sunday.

It’s not the sunny spring weekend many of us were hoping for, but it’s here nonetheless. Start the day at Applebee’s for a Flapjack Fundraiser to benefit the Eagle Valley Middle School Robotics Team. TOCCATA kicks off its 12th season of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion; enjoy free admittance to today’s dress rehearsal at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church. No matter what your interests, this valley offers something for everyone. Keep reading for this weekend’s options.
