UPDATE: The Nevada Department of Transportation has wrapped up the first in a series of overnight full road closures on State Route 28 ahead of schedule. Both directions of SR 28 were closed between Lakeshore Boulevard in southern Incline Village near Tunnel Creek Café and Sand Harbor State Park from 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Oct. 29 for installation of bridges on the State Route 28 shared used path. A low pressure system moving into the Carson City region will bring strong gusty winds Sunday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning for much of Western Nevada.

Expect widespread sub-freezing temperatures Sunday night into Monday morning for both rural and urban areas throughout the Carson City region, western Nevada and Sierra.

CARSON CITY — The first in a series of overnight full road closures on State Route 28 south of Incline Village at Lake Tahoe will take place Oct. 29-31 as the Nevada Department of Transportation installs bridges on the State Route 28 shared used path.

Carson City could see some precipitation in the form of rain showers Monday night into Tuesday with cooler daytime temperatures through most of next week, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno said.

With daytime high temperatures in the low 70s, Sunday could just about be a near-perfect day for outdoor activities in celebration of September's swan song.

Gusty winds and low humidity will arrive in the Carson City and Sierra region Tuesday along with a cooling weather pattern, which has prompted the National Service to issue a fire weather watches and warnings.

Sunny skies and a a warming trend are in the mix for the Carson City region through the Labor Day holiday weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Near average temperatures are expected for the week ahead around Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas with sunny days and typical afternoon breezes, according to the National Weather Service.

While many Third and Curry Farmer's Market shoppers were still waking up to a crisp Saturday morning in Carson City, a young Mule deer family was feasting on the bounty of apples that had fallen from a tree along N. Ormsby Blvd.

A veil of smoke to the east of Carson City Sunday delayed the sun light's break over the Nevada state capital until shortly before 7 a.m.

CARSON CITY — Increased fuels due to the wet winter and spring, drying vegetation, high fuel loading, and increasing daytime temperatures have prompted the Bridgeport and Carson Ranger Districts on the Humbolt-Toiyabe National Forest to announce the implementation of fire restrictions beginning Saturday, August 4.

UPDATE 2:58PM: Carson City's air quality worsened Wednesday afternoon to "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" with an Air Quality Index measure now at 115.
Sensitive groups include people with lung disease such as asthma, older adults, children and teenagers, and people who are active outdoors. People who fall in this group should reduce prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion.

The summer heat will settle into the Carson City region this week, with daytime temperatures in the upper 90s to 100 or higher Monday through Wednesday in the capital city and Carson Valley and 100-plus in Dayton and Virginia City, according to the National Weather Service.

Above average summer temperatures are forecast over the next several days for Northwestern Nevada, including Carson City, bringing with them a Red Flag Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

With hot, dry conditions and gusty winds expected to arrive in the Carson City region Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service has issued a red flag fire weather warning, the second one this week.

CARSON CITY — Detours will be in place for residential access from Alternate U.S. 395 to East Laramie and Rawhide drives in Pleasant Valley beginning this week as part of a continuing NDOT project to resurface the highway.

CARSON CITY — Turn lane closures and lane reductions will take place next week on U.S. 395 at Airport Road in the Carson Valley as part of an ongoing Nevada Department of Transportation project to install a traffic signal and improve other highway intersections.

A noticeable cooling trend will return to the Carson City region beginning Friday with breezy conditions followed by sunny skies and below normal daytime high temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

UPDATE 1:45PM: As expected higher temperatures and gusty winds have begun to pick up in Carson City as of Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters continue to battle the Voltaire Canyon fire by ground and by helicopter air attacks, with forward progress being made. We will provide updates as they come in as to fire containment. The U.S. Forest Service reports the fire remains around 500 acres.

Firefighters battling the Voltaire Canyon fire in south Carson City are dealing with calm winds and higher humidity as of Wednesday morning.

When Rhonda Abend heard there was interest in organizing an outdoor movie series in Carson City over the summer, her reply was automatic: “As you wish.”

CARSON CITY — Single lane closures will begin Wednesday on sections of Alternate, Old U.S. 395 in Pleasant and Washoe valleys as the Nevada Department of Transportation resurfaces the roadway.
