Smokey Sunday sunrise in Carson City
A veil of smoke to the east of Carson City Sunday delayed the sun light's break over the Nevada state capital until shortly before 7 a.m.
The air quality index (AQI) in Carson City Sunday morning is rated in the moderate range at 51, according to data from the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP).
The AQI could worsen, per the NDEP forecast, to unhealthy levels again should smoke return and settle into the area today.
The weather forecast for Carson City is mostly sunny with a high around 94 degrees and light southwest-west winds 10-15 miles per hour (mph) with 25 mph gusts possible, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno reports.
Monday is also forecast to see mostly sunny skies and a high around 93 degrees. But the area could see scattered thunderstorms Tuesday into Wednesday with a 20-30 percent chance, the NWS reports, and daytime highs dropping below 90 degrees.
