City reminds downtown visitors that Curry Street is open to traffic
Visitors to the downtown Carson City business district are reminded that the downtown Curry Street corridor, including side streets, is open to vehicle traffic despite continued construction activities between Musser and Robinson streets, said City Engineer Dan Stuckey with Carson City Public Works.
"Moving forward, there are no scheduled street closures for the project," he said. "I anticipate minimal impacts to the travelling public for the remainder of the project."
Stuckey said minor construction activities will continue along downtown Curry Street, including the installation of survey monuments, caulking of sidewalks, installation of arches at Telegraph alley, installation of detectable warning tiles at Telegraph Square, and other punch list items.
These projects are expected to be completed over the next three weeks, he said, with limited traffic and parking interruptions.
"Disruptions to traffic and parking will only be short term and on an intermittent basis," Stuckey said. "Q&D [Construction] will have a flagger on site to detour traffic around any of these small work zones, if needed."
All remaining work, he said, will take place during weekday daytime hours. No weekend work is scheduled.
Outstanding landscape work is on hold until next Spring, Stuckey said, and will result in only minimal impacts to the traveling public at that time with a relatively short duration.
For Thanksgiving week, construction activity will only occur Monday through Wednesday, 11/19-21. There will be no work on Thursday and Friday, or over the small business shopping weekend, either.
Residents, shoppers and visitors should not be discouraged from returning to the downtown Curry Street corridor to experience the new look and conduct business as usual in downtown Carson City.
