UPDATE: Man dies in afternoon pedestrian crash off of Hot Springs Road

A 71-year-old man died Thursday night after he was struck by a pickup earlier in the afternoon, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Care Flight ordered after vehicle hits pedestrian on Hot Springs Road

UPDATE 9PM: A 71-year-old man died Thursday night after he was struck by a pickup earlier in the afternoon, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

At approximately 2:50 p.m., the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident at 101 Hot Springs Road in North Carson City. Although the pedestrian had been reported trapped under the vehicle, by the time officers arrived, he had been removed and was conscious and speaking. The patient was treated at the scene by fire and paramedics and transported by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center. The pedestrian was walking in a marked crosswalk area but there is not an electronic signal.

At 7:49 p.m., the Carson City Sheriff’s Office was notified that the pedestrian victim of the accident had died, said Furlong. His name has not yet been released.

The 68-year-old driver of the vehicle was cited at the scene for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

UPDATE 3:21: An adult male pedestrian was flown by Care Flight after being struck by a red pickup this afternoon in the 100 block of Hot Springs Road near North Carson Street.

NDOT projects at Lake Tahoe this week; delays expected on Highway 50 at Cave Rock

Beginning Wednesday drivers will see temporary lane reductions on Highway 50 through Cave Rock, Lake Tahoe, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation. Also, work begins Tuesday on a pedestrian safety project on State Route 28 in Incline Village.

Carson City City Sheriff's Office, NHP to hold crosswalk operation on Monday

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada Highway Patrol will hold a Joining Forces crosswalk operation Monday in the Carson City area. A second operation will be held on August 23.

Deputies dressed in bright orange clothing will cross streets utilizing marked crosswalks as well as traffic light controlled intersections where pedestrians cross.

Woman flown by Care Flight after being hit in crosswalk on West College Parkway

A woman was flown by CareFlight this morning after she was struck by a car while crossing a crosswalk on West College Parkway near Save Mart at the north end of Carson City.
The accident happened at around 7:30 a.m. Traffic is being diverted around the accident scene and is under investigation, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Mike Cullen.

NHP: 13-year-old girl in serious condition in crosswalk crash on South Carson Street

A 13-year-old Carson Middle School girl remains in serious condition after an accident Tuesday afternoon at a South Carson Street crosswalk, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

UPDATE: From Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong: At 3:03 p.m., the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, fire and ambulance responded to a report of a vehicle vs pedestrian accident at the intersection of South Carson Street and 10th Street. On arrival, it was learned that a 13-year-old Carson Middle School student was crossing Carson Street in the crosswalk when she was struck by a north bound vehicle. The student was determined to be in critical condition and care flighted to Renown.

A minor fender bender accident happened at around 12:15 p.m. today on North Carson Street where a pedestrian was crossing the road in the crosswalk.

42 cited in Carson City crosswalk safety operation

Crosswalk safety operations on three busy Carson City streets commenced Tuesday with 42 citations issued to motorists, said Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott McDaniel. Of those, 23 were issued for failing to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk and the others were for various violations including cell phone use, speeding and seatbelt use.

This morning enjoy beautiful views from the Virginia and Truckee Trail on the west side of Carson; it is also an excellent trail for biking. Later today, tag along with Muscle Powered for something more challenging. They will be exploring around Centennial Park on the far northeast side of Carson City. On April 28 the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will hold a crosswalk safety operation that will utilize deputies dressed in bright orange attire who will use a marked crosswalk to cross the street at various locations in Carson City. Drivers will be pulled over by a marked patrol unit if they fail to stop for the pedestrians in the crosswalk, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

Teen hit at Carson City crosswalk recovering at Reno hospital, crash under investigation

A 17-year-old Carson City teen suffered non-life threatening injuries and is recovering at Renown Medical Center in Reno following a pedestrian accident Saturday night at the intersection crosswalk of Highway 50 and Lompa Lane. The accident is under investigation and alcohol may be a factor, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper said Sunday.

UPDATE 11:30PM: A 17-year-old teenage male was flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno late Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection crosswalk of Lompa Lane and Highway 50, a Carson City Sheriff's Office sergeant said.
As of 11:30 p.m., one travel lane was open on Highway 50 for through-traffic as Nevada Highway Patrol troopers determine the cause of the accident, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

UPDATE: Carson City emergency personnel on scene report the 14-year-old girl received minor abrasions to her elbows and will not require hospitalization. One vehicle was involved in the accident that happened in the crosswalk, according to Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel. The driver was cited.

Super Bowl Sunday: Enjoy the game, drink responsibly

Super Bowl Sunday is coming up and as always there will be celebrations and parties throughout the country. Here in Carson City there will also be many places where you and your friends will meet to watch the game and cheer on your favorite team.

Care Flight called after teen injured in accident at William and Saliman

UPDATE: The juvenile driver of a vehicle that struck and injured a teenager on a bicycle going across William Street was cited for causing the accident, said Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Darrin Sloan.

The accident isn’t related to the traffic diversions coming off of Saliman onto William Street. The driver appeared to not be paying attention as the teen bicyclist was going across the street with a right-of-way and the teen motorist striking him when making a left hand turn at the flashing yellow arrow light, said Sloan. The bicyclist was struck in the No. 1 lane and there wasn’t a blind spot.

“It was driver inattention causing the accident,” he said.

The condition of the injured teen is unknown. He was flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno with a laceration to the head. The collision caused the teen on the bicycle to go into the windshield of the vehicle, said Sloan.

Carson City Sheriff's Office to conduct saturation patrols through remainder of month

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be conducting saturation patrols in the Carson City area for the rest of this month. The focus of these patrols will be to reduce crashes by enforcing traffic violations, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

NHP: Pedestrian killed overnight while crossing East McCarran in Sparks

The Nevada Highway Patrol continues to investigate a New Year's Eve accident Wednesday in which a man walking across East McCarran was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by a Fallon woman.

The accident happened at around 8:15 p.m. Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to vehicle versus pedestrian accident south of Prater Way near Lincoln Way in Sparks, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.

Carson City sheriff's deputies issue 29 warnings during crosswalk operation

Carson City Sheriff's Office conducted a Crosswalk Enforcement Operation Tuesday that resulted in 29 individuals being stopped, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel.
Of these stops, 21 were for failing to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk. In addition 2 stops were made for following too closely, four for speeding, and two for cell phone use.

Pedestrian crosswalk operation to be held Tuesday

The average weight of a motor vehicle is around 4000 pounds. The average weight of a human being is about 185 pounds. The math is simple; when the two meet the results can be deadly.

Carson City emergency crews respond to vehicle accident with pedestrian on Highway 50 East

UPDATE: Care Flight was ordered and Carson City fire and ambulance responded tonight to an accident involving a pedestrian in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East at Fairview and Gordon. The victim, an adult female pedestrian, was conscious and moving on the pavement when rescue crews found her but was suffering from back and neck injuries.

The call came into dispatch at 5:18 p.m. Carson City sheriff's deputies rerouted traffic around the accident scene.

NHP identifies Michael Shields of Carson City in Nov. 11 motorcycle crash that killed pedestrian

The Nevada Highway Patrol has released the name of the victim in a Nov. 11 motorcycle crash on Stewart Street in which a Carson City man died while attempting to cross the road in a crosswalk.

Carson City Sheriff's Office targets impaired drivers, crosswalk violators in December

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office along with other law enforcement agencies throughout Nevada are participating in Joining Forces through December with the task of stopping impaired motorists.

Grant money for this event is provided by the Nevada Department of Public Safety-Office of Traffic Safety. These monies are used to pay for additional deputies who will be out looking for impaired drivers, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel of the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Memorial at Cactus Jack's Tuesday for pedestrian killed in crosswalk

Employees at Cactus Jack's Casino will hold a memorial for Mike Shields this Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. inside the Poker Room at Cactus Jack's at 420 North Carson St., Carson City.

Shields died Nov. 11 after being struck in a crosswalk by a motorcycle as he was returning from Cactus Jack's, where he was an employee. The accident remains under investigation. The Nevada Highway Patrol has had difficulty in locating the family of Mr. Shields. Friends say Shields would have celebrated a birthday Tuesday.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says alcohol is suspected in a crash Tuesday night involving a motorcyclist in which an adult man died while crossing an intersection after he was struck by a motorcycle at Stewart and Telegraph streets in Carson City.

One dead, one flown by Care Flight in grave condition after motorcycle crash with pedestrian in Carson City

UPDATE: One person is dead from injuries in a crash Tuesday night involving a motorcycle and pedestrian at Stewart and Telegraph streets, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong confirmed. The pedestrian, an older adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcyclist, also a male adult, was taken by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno where they are suffering serious, grave injuries, Furlong said. The crash was reported at 5:27 p.m.

Sgt. Earl Mays said it appears the pedestrian was in the crosswalk when he was struck by the motorcyclist. The Nevada Highway Patrol is also at the scene investigating.

UPDATE: One person was flown by Care Flight and another having suffered serious injuries following a crash Tuesday night involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian at Stewart and Telegraph streets. CPR was being administered to one of the victims, while another was taken by ambulance to a landing zone near the DMV where a Care Flight helicopter has taken them to Renown Medical Center in Reno.
