Care Flight called after teen injured in accident at William and Saliman
UPDATE: The juvenile driver of a vehicle that struck and injured a teenager on a bicycle going across William Street was cited for causing the accident, said Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Darrin Sloan.
The accident isn’t related to the traffic diversions coming off of Saliman onto William Street. The driver appeared to not be paying attention as the teen bicyclist was going across the street with a right-of-way and the teen motorist striking him when making a left hand turn at the flashing yellow arrow light, said Sloan. The bicyclist was struck in the No. 1 lane and there wasn’t a blind spot.
“It was driver inattention causing the accident,” he said.
The condition of the injured teen is unknown. He was flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno with a laceration to the head. The collision caused the teen on the bicycle to go into the windshield of the vehicle, said Sloan.
Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office notes that while northbound Saliman is opened for traffic, southbound isn’t and is what is causing the congestion tie up at Saliman and Seely Loop. Motorists should pay attention to all signage, he said.
Saliman Road will be closed through Friday from Seely Loop, the Mills Park entrance, to Robinson Street in the road project. Sloan noted that all things considered, traffic Tuesday morning went as expected, with heavy congestion beginning after 7 a.m. as students prepared to enter the school grounds.
Despite the accident, traffic again went as expected, with students all wishing to leave the high school grounds at one. It was the accident that caused more of a delay due to emergency vehicles and the investigation, he said.
Sloan advised that motorists who are picking up or dropping off students can use northbound Saliman. Motorists wanting to avoid all congestion in the area are advised to use Roop Street.

UPDATE: Carson City sheriff's officers continue to investigate what happened this afternoon in which a teenager was struck by a car at the intersection of William and Saliman. The teen suffered a laceration to the head and was flown by Care Flight to Reno.
Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Darrin Sloan said the teen was conscious and alert at the time he was taken by ambulance. What is being investigated is to determine if the teen had walked against the light or whether the motorist in the vehicle didn't see the teen walking in the crosswalk when the accident happened.
Traffic in the area was already congested at the time of the accident due to road construction on Saliman in front of the high school. At around 2 p.m., several officers already deployed from the sheriff's office to Saliman between the high school, and Robinson Street to guide traffic through.

Care Flight has been called and Carson City fire and rescue responded to the intersection of William Street and Saliman after an accident involving at least one person, reportedly a 15-year-old Carson High School student, who has been injured.
Traffic was rerouted on the west side of Saliman at William. In what is already considered a tangled mess at Saliman, the accident in front of Walgreens was reported to dispatch at 2:18 p.m. as school was let out and officers were conducting traffic control measures around the road construction site.
The condition of the 15-year-old pedestrian was that he suffered a laceration to the head, according to first responders on scene. He was taken by ambulance to the Carson City Airport where a Care Flight flew him to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno. No other information on condition was available.
Nevada Highway Patrol has also responded, and are assisting in re-directing traffic around the accident and off of Saliman as high schoolers were continuing to leave the campus.
