Column: Maneuvering Carson City roundabouts and knowing who has the right of way
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 01/11/2014 - 3:01pmI have mentioned in the past that I get questions from time to time about traffic related issues. Today I received one about the roundabouts in Carson City. The concern was that many drivers may not understand how they work.
Traditional Chinese dance, music and storytelling at Brewery Arts Center
Submitted by editor on Sat, 01/11/2014 - 7:32amCelebrate the Chinese New Year at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center Feb. 8. 2 p.m. with traditional Chinese dance featuring Nevada Arts Council artist Xian Na Carlson.
Xian Na Carlson began learning folk dances as a child growing up in Zhangzhou, China. From her aunt she learned the Tuan Shan, (fan dance), the Xin Jiang regional dance and Tai Ji forms.
Winter Wine and All That Jazz benefit for the Brewery Arts Center set for Jan. 18
Submitted by editor on Fri, 01/10/2014 - 5:38pmThe Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s premiere epicenter for the arts since 1977 has partnered with the Carson Nugget as well as various vineyards and vendors to present Winter Wine and All That Jazz, an evening of wine tasting, music, dancing, a live art demonstration, silent auction and raffles.
This annual fundraiser will be held on Saturday, January 18 at the Carson Nugget from 7pm to 10pm. Tickets are $30 per person and are available for purchase at www.breweryarts.org. For more info call the Brewery Arts Center office at 775-883-1976
Carson City workshops seek public comment on proposed sales tax plan

The money would help pay for a new multi-purpose athletic center, known as the “MAC,” a new animal services facility, and streetscape beautification and safety enhancements along the Carson City’s main commercial corridors and the downtown area.

Carson Tahoe Health, University of Utah Health Care partner to improve specialist access

The agreement formalizes a long tradition of collaboration between the two health care providers.
Western Nevada College Baseball Team to Have "Bowling Night"

Thank you for making The 1st Annual Moundhouse Christmas Festival a success

The money from the raffle items went to The Ron Woods Family Center and the cans of food that were donated are going to The Dayton Food Pantry. Next year we have promises from other local businesses to help out and spread much needed donations and Christmas cheer to an area that is largely forgotten.

Two jailed on separate felony charges after Carson City deputies find stolen tablet, car

In one arrest a man was in possession of an electronic tablet that was allegedly stolen from a Target store in Oregon and the other, a vehicle that was reported stolen Dec. 26.
Rim Fire's effects on Sierra lakes studied

Douglas County side at Lake Tahoe sees 24 arrests overnight during New Year's Eve period

The celebratory crowd seemed no larger than in past years. U.S. Highway 50 was closed to vehicle traffic at about 11:40 p.m. for public safety reasons. The celebrants were allowed to flow into the roadway as they celebrated the coming of the New Year.
New Year's holiday period in Carson City results in drug, battery and DUI arrests
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 01/01/2014 - 8:59amA Carson City man was arrested early New Year's morning and faces a felony charge of drug possession with intent to sell after officers recovered more than an ounce of marijuana and a scale to weigh it with the word "work" taped to it.
Paul John Bekakis, 29, was arrested at 3:25 a.m. near Sixth and Carson streets and was booked into Carson City jail on the drug charge. According to the arrest report, officers did a traffic stop suspecting the driver was under the influence. Officers could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the car.
Governor’s Office of Energy partners to bring free power to Carson City electric vehicles

The newly-installed electric vehicle charging station can be found at Carson City’s Mills Park, in the parking lot between the Community Center and Aquatics Center.
Reno police provide details after Carson City murder suspect kills himself at park

Michael Dylan Brentlinger, 22, shot himself once in the head at Manzanita Park using a .45 caliber handgun, the same caliber believed used to kill a Carson City man early Saturday morning inside a Carmine Street home and critically wounding his 19-year-old daughter, said Reno Police Department Lt. William Rulla.

Nevada picked among six drone development centers

As a drone development site, the state would benefit by providing thousands of jobs with an average wage of approximately $62,000; an estimated $2.5 billion in economic impact in present dollars; and an estimated $125 million in annual state and local tax revenue.
Douglas authorities seek help from public, Center for Missing Children in finding runaway teen

Investigators believe that Treasa Ramirez, 17, may be in the Reno/Sparks area. The Center for Missing and Exploited Children has been contacted concerning this case, said Sgt. Pat Brooks of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
