Fighters Against Child Abuse launches 'Jeans 4 Tweens and Teens' clothing drive

Realizing help is needed more than just during the Holidays, FACA is setting up drop off locations for new or gently used jeans and clothing as well as new socks, underwear and sneakers.
Report: Lake Tahoe's long-term clarity trending toward stability
Submitted by editor on Thu, 03/13/2014 - 9:17amClarity levels within the iconic blue waters of Lake Tahoe continued a decadelong trend of stabilization in 2013, according to University of California, Davis, scientists who study the lake.
Data released today by the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency reported the average annual clarity level for 2013 at 70.1 feet. While the reading represents a 5 foot decrease over the previous year, it is still well above the lowest value recorded in 1997 of 64.1 feet and above recent years' averages.
CHS Bowling Steamrolls Manogue 34-11 for Unprecedented 13th Title

The Carson High School starting lineup: Alec Fletcher, Jacob Zumbro, Dustin Floyd, Skylar Belchar, Brett Paulson, Matt Lidell, Chris Baird, Conlin Herrick, and Tyler Lethcoe steamrolled Manogue 34-11 in the Baker's format for the title. CHS wrapped up the championship by the 6th game in the 9 game match.

The March 20, 6 p.m. presentation is at the Business Resource Innovation Center, also known as BRIC, which is a partnership of Carson City Library, Office of Business Development, Building, Engineering, Planning and Business Licensing, located at 108 E. Proctor Street.
UNR career program aimed at high school students interested in science, engineering

“The idea behind this program is to offer exposure for students to realize careers in many specialized areas of science and engineering,” Jacque Ewing-Taylor, associate director, Raggio Research Center for STEM Education and institutional grants coordinator, said.

Carson City man jailed after allegedly calling 911 six times on girlfriend's phone
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 03/12/2014 - 8:08amA 24-year-old man was arrested Wednesday morning on suspicion of misusing 911 after allegedly calling the Carson City dispatch center six times without speaking and then ignoring efforts to pick up the phone on subsequent call backs.
According to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, a deputy made contact with the man at 3:23 a.m. inside an apartment in the 500 block of Country Village. The man denied he had called 911. Officers spoke with other witnesses inside the apartment who verified the man had taken his girlfriend's phone and locked himself in the bedroom.
Motorist injured, 25 cattle killed in two-vehicle crash in Douglas County

One taken by Care Flight in Douglas County crash involving semi
Submitted by editor on Tue, 03/11/2014 - 5:13pmOne person was taken by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center after a crash in Douglas County Tuesday afternoon that involved a semi-truck and trailer loaded with cattle.
The accident happened at the intersection of State Route 88 and Waterloo Lane, closing Mottsville Lane, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. A power pole was knocked down in the crash that affected more than 2,000 NV Energy customers.
Passenger critically injured after vehicle hits tree near Spooner Summit

A preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the SUV may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Two-vehicle accident at Musser and Stewart ties up traffic; Care Flight ordered

The accident, reported at 4:50 p.m. was said to be a t-bone between the two vehicles with air bag deployment and serious injuries to at least one person, according to Carson City dispatch.

Topics will include water availability, recommended irrigation practices, insurance options and an outlook on prices. The first workshop will be March 20 in Fallon.

Tax money will go to build a new animal services facility, a new multi-purposes athletic center, street and pedestrian improvements in the downtown area and Carson Street and William Street/Highway 50 East commercial corridors, and Community Center improvements.
Carson City GATE students get schooled in sheriff's office K9 patrol
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 03/06/2014 - 8:43amThe Carson City Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit hosted a group of students from the Gifted and Academically Talented Education program from the Carson City School District Wednesday at the Fuji Park Pavilion.
Twenty-seven 6th and 7th grade students from Eagle Valley and Carson Middle Schools spent the day with the K9 Unit learning how the dogs work in drug detection, patrol work, and tracking. Demonstrations were done with the dogs and their handlers giving the students first hand experience at just what the teams are capable of.
Family of Carson City man killed by hit-and-run driver asks for help locating the suspect

Cody J. Dobson was walking on the highway, or may have stumbled from the adjacent sidewalk, just east of the MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa at approximately 3:13 am prior to being struck by a motor vehicle, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.
Carson City woman booked into jail on felony fugitive warrant

WNC Softball: Wildcats Lose Tripleheader to North Idaho

Tori Almos blanked WNC on four hits while striking out 11 to earn the first-game victory, 6-0, snapping the Wildcats’ five-game winning streak. The Cardinals completed the sweep with 14-1 and 10-5 wins.
The teams elected to play three games on Friday with snow and extremely cold temperatures forecast for Coeur d’Alene on Saturday. A high temperature of 12 degrees is expected on Saturday.
