I really hope I’m not required to choose a favorite event. I would be hard pressed to choose between the Nevada Day Parade and the annual Taste of Downtown. Luckily, I can adore them both, and for much the same reason. They are a celebration of community, of Carson City, of our historic downtown and all that it has to offer. In addition to 'The Taste', the Brewery Arts Center goes country with the Southern Drawl Band on its outdoor stage, and Madam Curry leads another downtown Ghost Walk. On July 9, Carson Animal Services Initiative, also known as CASI, had the pleasure of hosting our annual Bark, Whine and Dine fundraiser at Fuji Park, and because of our incredible community, it was once again a huge success.

Carson City Sheriff’s Motor Unit raises $500 for Catmandu shelter from recent competition

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Motor Unit, which adopted the feline shelter Catmandu as the nonprofit organization it would help through the sale of t-shirts at last month's Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge, presented a $500 check Wednesday to the organization.

“We’re really grateful for all you’ve done for us,” said Linda Buchanan, founder of the nonprofit Catmandu, which has been struggling financially this year to keep its doors open.

Motor Officer Challenge returns with action packed events Friday and Saturday at Mills Park

Motor officers from around the country return to Carson City this week to train and compete in the 13th annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge at Mills Park.

The event runs Thursday through Saturday at Mills Park with Thursday a practice day for the competitors. The big events that bring the most spectators and participants will be on Friday and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and feature music, vendors, food, demonstrations and contests.

Carson City Sheriff's Office adopts cash-strapped cat shelter to benefit from motorcycle competition

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Motor Unit has adopted Catmandu as this year’s 13th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge (Black Cat 13) charity. The Motor Unit will be raising funds through t-shirt sales and donations at the event scheduled for June 24-25 at Mills Park.

Flea from chipmunk at Fallen Leaf Lake tests positive for plague

A flea from a yellow pine chipmunk in the Lake Tahoe area has tested positive for plague according to El Dorado County health officials.

The flea was sampled from one of three rodents trapped in the Fallen Leaf Campground area during routine plague surveillance May 18, 2016.

Nevada Humane Society launches mobile spay, neuter services for feral cats in Carson City

Residents in Carson City now have an option for spaying and neutering feral cats. A mobile veterinary clinic, specially designed for spay/neuter services, was recently built for Nevada Humane Society thanks to a grant which covered the cost of the vehicle.
