Obituary: Catherine Mattoon
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 04/03/2019 - 4:16pmCatherine Diane Mattoon, age 59, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family March 14, 2019. She was born September 18, 1959 in Burbank, California to Ronald and Diane Wonser.
At age 18 on October 1, 1977 she married the love of her life, Mark Mattoon. Catherine is survived by her husband and children: Mark Jr., Brian, Heather, Matthew, Stephanie and Christopher and her five grandchildren.

Nevada State Parks to host Donovan Mill history hike from Dayton to Silver City
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 04/02/2019 - 10:29amNevada State Park staff will host an April 13 guided hike from the Rock Point Mill at Dayton State Park to the historic Donovan Mill in Silver City, Nev.
The Rock Point Mill was one of the earliest large mills in Nevada built to crush ore from the Comstock mines. The mill was destroyed by fires in 1882 and 1909, and floods also caused damage. Although the mill was rebuilt, demand lessened and it was dismantled and moved to the Donovan Mill site in Silver City in the 1920s.

Jazz & Beyond Committee Announces 2019 Art Contest

Selected entries in the competition may be used to promote the festival, and the winning entry will be featured on the festival’s advertising poster and program cover.
A T-shirt may also feature one of the designs submitted.
The entry deadline is May 15th, 2019.

By identifying which businesses recycle what items, Nevada Recycles will attempt to pair customers with recyclers more efficiently, helping to establish a better rate of recycling throughout the State.

Muscle Powered Saturday Hike: Snowshoe Hike to Clear Creek Connector Trail

We will hike on the Clear Creek Connector Trail that intersects with the longer Clear Creek Trail. Both trails built by Carson Valley Trails Association. Meet 8:00 am at Hwy 50 Park-and-ride just west of Hwy 50/US395 interchange. We will carpool three miles to the Golf Course Drive parking area near the trailhead. Dogs are not allowed on this hike.
