Carson City Fire Department extinguish warming fire at Arrowhead and Carson

Carson City Fire Department was called Friday morning to a small brush fire in the area of Arrowhead and Carson Street. Arriving firefighters located the small warming fire in a field and it has been extinguished, according to dispatch.
Meanwhile, Empire Ranch Golf Course is doing open burning Friday morning and it is sending up a smoke column. The golf course advised dispatch that it was doing the burning.

Vehicle crash at Hot Springs Road apartment causes gas leak and evacuation, one injured

UPDATE: 11:48PM: At least one person inside an apartment was injured after being struck by a vehicle the caused a gas leak in the 600 block of Old Hot Spring Road. The crash forced the evacuation of 15 to 20 people before the broken gas lines were sealed.
The male adult victim was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

Carson City emergency crews called to crash at Lompa and Sherman

UPDATE: The crash at Sherman and Lompa involves two vehicles, a black Chrysler and a white Dodge pickup. Two children and an adult have been taken to the hospital for injuries, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel. Traffic is being directed from Sherman onto Nye street.

Carson City sheriff's deputies and Carson City Fire Department are responding Wednesday night to a head-on crash with injuries at the intersection of Lompa and Sherman. The call came into dispatch at 6:55 p.m.

Carson City Sheriff: Man booked on felony charge after pedestrian dies in crash

A Carson City man is in custody after a hit and run pedestrian crash last week on Highway 50 and Brown Street that resulted in the death of the victim, said Carson City sheriff Ken Furlong.

Juan Pablo Rios, 37, was charged with felony failure to stop at the scene of an accident involving personal Injury or death, a category B felony. Bail was set at $50,000. Rios was booked Tuesday into the Carson City Jail. The victim, Gustova Garcia-Valdes, 52, died as a result of injuries.

High winds knock down trees on Carson City's west side

UPDATE 1:52 PM: Carson City Fire Department and Public Works were called to the area of North Carson Street at Arrowhead where a tree has fallen and was blocking lanes of traffic and power lines on the road. Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were called to assist and redirect traffic. All motorists should avoid the area.

High winds have whipped through Carson City this afternoon knocking down trees, snapping limbs, and dropping fences.

The tree is the first photo fell at around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Nevada and Seventh Street blocking both lanes of traffic. In the second photo, this tree fell on King street near Tacoma at around 12:15 p.m., bringing down a large pine and reducing traffic to one lane across from Carson Middle School.

Carson City Fire Department: Driver uninjured in SUV rollover at Goni and Maxwell

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called late this afternoon to a rollover crash in the area of Goni Road and Maxwell.
According to dispatch the vehicle was a SUV that overturned several times. Arriving fire department personnel said the driver was not injured.

Fire departments raise ladders above Carson City as part of regional training academy

Multiple fire agencies are holding training exercises Wednesday at the old Kinkead Building in Carson City. There are at least three ladder trucks that are fully extended as part of the exercises.

Suspected gas leak forces brief evacuation of Nevada health office on Technology Way

UPDATE: Southwest Gas and Carson City Fire Department have gone through the building. The issue has been turned over to building maintenance and employees have been allowed back into the building.

Carson City Fire personnel rescue a 40-year-old man who was injured after his truck rolled 400 feet off Goni Road in Carson City, Nev., on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016. The man spent about a day in the wreckage until family members located him and called authorities. He had been looking for a lost dog. He was taken to a Reno hospital for treatment.

Carson City deputies, rescue crews respond to vehicle down embankment in Goni Canyon

UPDATE 3:20PM: The 40-year-old victim in a vehicle rollover was taken out of Goni Canyon by helicopter and transported by ground ambulance to Renown Medical Center in Reno following a rescue Wednesday afternoon. The man's pickup was discovered by a friend who went looking for him after he had not returned home overnight. The man had been looking for a lost dog, friends and family said. The pickup was found around 400 feet down into a canyon and required a technical rescue involving 10 Carson City Fire Department firefighters.

UPDATE 1:58PM: The pickup was found in the canyon about 400 feet down from the road, said Carson City Undersheriff Steve Albertsen. Care Flight has been called in to transport the man out of the canyon after he arrives in a safe area where the helicopter can land, dispatch said. An NAS helicopter out of Fallon was canceled.

UPDATE: Carson City deputies and rescue crews have made contact with an injured 40-year-old man whose vehicle was discovered around 400 feet down an embankment this afternoon in Goni Canyon. The man sustained injuries to his hands and back, some lacerations and is not trapped inside the vehicle.

Two people were taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon following a crash in the 3200 block of Highway 50 East near the post office, according to the Carson City Fire Department.

Carson City Fire Department knock down structure fire on Sheffield Manor

Carson City Fire Department responded to the 2000 block of Sheffield Manor this afternoon for a structure fire. Crews and engines were called at around 3:40 p.m. after a report of smoke coming from the structure. At 3:53 p.m. the fire was knocked down, according to dispatch. No injuries were reported.

Latest phone scam: Carson City resident targeted by so-called firefighters association

Another phone scam is making its way around Carson City. The latest involves a telephone number with a 775 area code and an Incline Village prefix in which the perpetrator says he’s collecting money on behalf of the association of firefighters.

Carson City Fire Department and the Nevada Highway Patrol were called to a three-vehicle crash in the northbound lane of I-580 near Arrowhead. One person was said to have injuries due to air bag deployment.

Wind topples tree, blocks lane of traffic on North Carson Street

Gusting winds uprooted a tree on North Carson Street in Carson City late Monday morning, blocking one lane of traffic.
The large pine blew over at around 11:40 a.m., causing traffic to back up. The tree will have to be cut up and the road lane is expected to be blocked for at least an hour. Carson City Fire Department has responded and Carson City sheriff's deputies are redirecting traffic.

A fire broke out at a gas pump at the Shell station on South Carson Street today around 3pm.

No one was injured and the fire was swiftly extinguished by the Carson City Fire Department. The exact cause of the fire is still being determined at this time and the Shell station remains closed.

Doctors have told Leslie McGarry her cancer is terminal, predicting she has between two to five years left to live.
She disagrees.

“I don’t feel like,” she begins, but pauses to cover her 5-year-old daughter’s ears. “I don’t feel like I’m dying,” she continues. “Medically, I get it. But I refuse that diagnosis.”

One technician put it to her bluntly. “You have an expiration date,” he told her.

“I laughed. I do have an expiration date, we all do,” McGarry said. “But that’s up to God. He has the final answer.”

UPDATE 5:53PM: Three separate vehicle crashes, each within minutes, have happened tonight beginning just after 5 p.m., along Highway 50 East, said Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Scott McDaniel.
The crashes happened without snow or ice on the ground. There are crashes at: Highway 50 East and Airport Road, Highway 50 East and Nichols and Highway 50 East across from Dotty's Casino near the I-580 ramp.

A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday for felony home invasion after allegedly kicking in the door of one apartment and assaulting a resident in another, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Carson City Fire Department called to structure fire at Mary and Fifth streets

UPDATE: St. Teresa students are back in school and the evacuation has been lifted.

Carson City firefighters responded this afternoon to a house fire at 735 W. 5th Street, adjacent to St. Theresa school.

Heavy smoke and flames were visible when firefighters arrived on the scene at about 1 p.m. The blaze was under control by 1:40 p.m.

No one was home at the time, but that there might be a pet inside. The cause is under investigation.

St. Theresa school students have been evacuated. The fire call came into dispatch just after 1 p.m.

All Clear: White powder brought to Carson City Sheriff's Office is gypsum material

UPDATE 12:35 p.m.: The substance that led to the closure of the Carson City Sheriff's Office this morning has been identified as a gypsum-type material, according to Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Barricades on East Musser Street have been lifted and the road to the sheriff's office is open. The front office will open sometime after 1:30 p.m., said Furlong.

A 23-year-old Mound House woman was arrested Saturday on a gross misdemeanor charge of battery on a peace officer after allegedly spitting and kicking a deputy in the chest while intoxicated at the hospital, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

UPDATE 958AM: An adult male in his 50s was flown by Care Flight after he crashed his moped near Fairview and College Parkway. No other vehicles were involved and the incident is being investigated for DUI, according to a Carson City sheriff's office sergeant.

Crash at Roop and Long sends one to hospital via Care Flight

UPDATE: All lanes are now open as of 6:50 p.m. in the area of Roop and Long streets, where a rollover crash happened earlier tonight. One person was flown to the trauma ward of Renown Medical Center in Reno. Three others were treated and released from the scene. The crash happened just before 5:45 p.m.
