Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Man jailed on suspicion of making threats with knife

A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday in the 1100 block of South Nevada Street on felony suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, misdemeanor brandishing a weapon in a serious manner and being in violation of alternative sentencing, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the residence regarding a man acting erratically with a knife. Officers spoke with witnesses who said the man, identified as Richard Ruiz III, pointed a knife at them and they became afraid. The suspect said he never touched the knife other than to put it into his pants pocket. He was arrested at 9:20 p.m. Bail: $21,637.

In other arrests:
— A 20-year-old Carson City man, Julian Lel Brooks, turned himself into jail deputies Saturday, 12:08 p.m. on a felony theft warrant charge out of Sparks Township Court and a misdemeanor warrant charge of probation violation, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. Bail: $10,000.

— A 34-year-old Carson City man, Wesley Adam Ives, was arrested Saturday, 8:37 p.m. in the 500 block of North Carson Street on a felony charge, possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to appear for a traffic citation.

According to the arrest report a deputy conducted a records check on a person that came back with a warrant. He was placed into custody. There was a jacket on the seat where the man was sitting. The officer asked the man if it was his jacket. The man said it was and told the officer to give the jacket to the woman sitting next to him because it had car keys in it. The officer searched through the jacket and found methamphetamine and a pipe. Bail: $3,932.

— A 43-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 1:38 a.m. in the 1500 block of Rand Avenue on a misdemeanor charge, destruction of private property. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to an apartment for a report of a domestic dispute. The deputy arrived and a highly intoxicated man approached saying he was hearing weird things in his neighbor’s apartment.

The officer went to the apartment and could see the window facing the apartment complex had been broken. The officer made contact with the occupant who identified himself. He said he called Carson City Dispatch about his neighbors arguing. He said he was in the kitchen when a coffee mug was thrown through his kitchen window. He said he did not see the person who threw the coffee mug.

The deputy went back outside and spoke with the intoxicated man. He admitted he threw the coffee mug at the man’s window, calling him a “pill popping liberal” and said many times that he “hates liberals” and that the victim had a campaign sign in the window for Hillary Clinton. He was arrested for destruction of property. $637.

— A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 10:47 p.m. in the area of East William and Saliman for misdemeanor DUI, driving without a valid license, disobedience of a traffic control device and failure to maintain a lane of traffic, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. A 24-year-old man was also arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon, brass knuckles, a gross misdemeanor.

According to the arrest report, a deputy observed a vehicle come to a traffic light going eight feet past the white stop line at the intersection. the traffic light changed to green and the vehicle went westbound on William Street. The officer observed the vehicle weaving back and forth, crossing the broken white line several times until a red traffic light was reached where the driver again stopped eight feet past the white stop line.

The officer performed a traffic stop on the vehicle. The deputy asked the man if he had been drinking. He said he had consumed several alcoholic beverages, the arrest report states. The deputy asked the man to exit the vehicle and perform standardized field sobriety tests. He showed impairment through the tests and was arrested. Bail: $,1,503. The bail amount of the man in possession of brass knuckles, $2,500.

— A 20-year-old Dayton man was arrested Sunday, 1:25 p.m. in the 1500 block of Monte Rosa on a misdemeanor warrant, contempt of court. Bail: $1,020.

— A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 9:18 a.m. in the 2100 block of Columbia Way on a misdemeanor charge of being a minor consuming alcohol. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area where the owner of a home found a man in his laundry room. The man had blood on his hands and face. Carson City Fire Department was called to evaluate the man. His injuries appeared to be road rash from falling down on the pavement. The man blew a preliminary breath test of .170. The victim of the residence wanted him removed from the scene. He was arrested for minor consuming. Bail: $242.

— A 39-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 11:39 p.m. at a casino in the 3600 block of Goni Road on a misdemeanor domestic battery warrant issued Jan. 7, 2016 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.

— A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 10:37 a.m. in the 800 block of Nye Lane on a misdemeanor warrant charge, failure to appear, issued June 26, 2015 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $305.

— A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 3:40 a.m. in the area of Woodside and Siskiyou on misdemeanor warrants for failure to appear. Bail: $390.

UPDATE: NV Energy has de-activated approximately 5,500 electricity customers in Washoe County in the area of the fire at Callahan Ranch.

NV Energy reports 2,636 customers without power Monday morning in Carson City. The outage was reported at 9:46 a.m. At this time there is not an estimated time of restoration. The cause is under investigation.

UPDATE 5PM: Fire crews will be mopping up the Callahan Fire overnight and into tomorrow. One primary residential structure was lost along with multiple outbuildings. The cause is under investigation at this time. Some fire evacuations remain in place at Callahan Rd and Fawn Lane as crews mop up hot spots. See Perimetermap.com here for evacuation updates.

UPDATE 12:55PM: The fire is estimated at approximately 100 acres; approximately 3,000 people have been impacted by evacuations. Rain is falling on the fire scene. Additional Strike Teams totaling 10-15 engines have begun arriving to assist on the fire, according to Eastern Sierra Fire and Ice, which tracks fires in the region.

Just before 11 a.m. on Monday, the Washoe County Alert system sent out an evacuation notice to residents in the Callahan Ranch area stating they should evacuate immediately.

The evacuation point is at South Valleys Library located at 15650A Wedge Pkwy, Reno.

Dayton Elementary students were treated Friday to a helicopter fly-in by the Nevada National Guard as part of the school's Veterans Day program.

A team from Nevada National Guard landed a helicopter on the soccer field after the school's Veterans Day assembly. Dayton Elementary is the only school in Lyon County that is a Purple Star School.

Veterans Day is Monday, Nov. 11 and is a federal holiday to honor all veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces. A number of events are planned in Carson City and surrounding counties.

Charle Abowd, a world renowned, award-winning chef and restaurateur but even more than that a philanthropist and community fixture for decades, died Saturday evening, according to longtime friends.

Abowd, 73, was a pioneer in farm to table dining, along with his wife Karen who co-owned Cafe at Adele's, he was a champion and supporter of music and the arts. He was a man who dedicated himself to lifting up others.

The Morgan Mill High-Water Mark unveiling will be held on Nov. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Morgan Mill River Access Area, 5597 Morgan Mill Road. This high-water mark project is an outreach tool designed to let people know their flood risk and to underscore how floodplains and open spaces work together to reduce their flood risk.

After a relatively mild weekend, another storm system is expected to arrive Monday that will bring gusty winds, mountain snow and some valley rain, according to the National Weather Service.

Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and Nevada Highway Patrol were called Saturday evening to a crash involving three vehicles near the intersection of Highway 50 East and Fairview.
