“We’re going to have bands at Telegraph Square and McFadden Plaza, and DJs and karaoke all around,” said Meliah Gonzales. “There really is going to be something for everyone.”

“I went to businesses I’d never been to before, and I’ve lived here 25 years,” he said. “We made so many great discoveries — despite the rain.”

Although the article itself seemed very non-controversial, the comments posted to it were anything but.

Carson City businesses pour out oil, vinegar and love to homeless
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Sun, 01/31/2016 - 9:23amOn the surface, olive oil and balsamic vinegar have little to do with homelessness. But here in Carson City, they have become a big deal.
Last month, noted area Chef Don Pepe, owner of Carpa Nevada LLC, sold more than $1,000 worth of his fine imported Portuguese olive oil and balsamic vinegars through Downtown Coin in Carson City.
The entire proceeds, totaling $400 in profit, were then donated to “Pets of the Homeless,” a Carson City-based non-profit organization that helps provide food and veterinary care for homeless companions nationwide.

Conversely, our city's officials serially ignore the value proposition, favoring redundant, feel-good projects lacking objective analysis, justification and worthwhile benefits. Core civic services and infrastructure maintenance suffer.
The recent initiative to raise sales taxes, projected to saddle taxpayers with $15 million of additional long-term debt, is largely ($13 million) targeted for more indoor basketball courts and arterial street beautification projects.
Thieves smash doors, take cash register money from two Carson City book stores

The Manger Christian Bookstore, and Dreamwell Comics, located at 4250 Cochise Street in South Carson City at the corner of Clearview were broken into sometime overnight, with the thief or thieves apparently attempting to get money from cash registers.
Four individuals, 3 Carson City businesses cited for buying, selling alcohol to minors
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 09/06/2013 - 4:01pmFour individuals and three Carson City businesses were cited this week during an underage alcohol "shoulder tap" operation through the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
The Monday operation is where individuals were asked by an underage "decoy" to purchase alcohol for him or her. The decoy informed those asked that they were underage and could not purchase the alcohol. The decoy was assisted by two Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies who oversaw the operation, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

Halloween activities at Carson Mall, Governor's Mansion

Though a small class, they were mighty and bonded well. Over the course of 2012, they shared many wonderful experiences meeting community leaders and learning about our unique community. Following the graduation ceremony, the official dedication and ribbon cutting of the Carson City Senior Center Leisure Hour Room was held. Mayor Robert Crowell and Senior Center Director Janice McIntosh cut the ribbon as the new graduates looked on.

In September 2010 she was diagnosed with an advanced form of lung cancer. Upon hearing about it, her co-workers started spreading the word about her struggle. Almost immediately a movement began to help Vikki and her family with this struggle. The response was immediate and overwhelming. People from all over the city began to ask what they could do to help, so a benefit fundraiser was arranged.

Carson City authorities take aim at thieves with pawn shop crackdown
Submitted by editor on Fri, 10/01/2010 - 8:25amCarson City businesses who deal in pawn and trade were given an update Thursday on revised laws by the Carson City Sheriff's Office. The update is designed to stop the sale of stolen property to pawn shops by thugs, drug addicts and dealers.
The statute reads: Pursuant to NRS 646.060 a Pawn Broker or, NRS 647.140 a second hand dealer, must not receive property from anyone under the age of 18, common drunkard, habitual known criminals, their associates and or their agents.
