Instead of hot weather, Mother Nature has decided to cool things down some as we head into the weekend with highs in the low 80s today and the low 70s for the first day of summer. Events, activities and more are lined up today including the first day of the three-day police officer motorcycle challenge at Mills Park, morning walks, Cruise Night at Empire Ranch Golf Course and live music outdoors at Living the Good Life.
'Grow with Google' today at Carson City Library and learn about the future of online business

The event runs from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., going over topics such as reaching customers online, promoting businesses online, and more.

Children's version of '101 Dalmatians' wags into Carson City's BAC this Friday

Students with the Carson City School District, in partnership with the Wild Horse Children’s Theater, will debut their Summer Theater Camp’s adaptation of Disney’s "101 Dalmatians, Kids." Admission to the play is free of charge; however, donations will be accepted.

There's Flag Day ceremonies at the Nevada Veterans Memorial and at the Elks Lodge. The Stewart Father’s Day Powwow happens Friday to Sunday and features hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers artists and cultural enthusiasts. Lace up the tennis shoes for the Eastside Historical tour of the capital city hosted by Muscle Powered. Journey of Hope returns to Western Nevada College at 5 p.m. to settle into the evening. Open Mic Night at A to Zen will cap-off an eventful Friday heading into the weekend.

June 11, 5:30 pm – Kings Canyon Trail/Lincoln Highway. Meet at the west end of Kings Canyon Road by the trailhead, CC. We will hike to Horse Creek Ranch meadow and back. Water and closed-toed shoes required. Hat and poles recommended.

V&T Railway Toast of the Canyon train tours return; will feature local and regional wineries, distilleries and breweries

The event, which runs every other Saturday through October, takes passengers into the Carson River Canyon to enjoy libations and appetizers.

On tap for the day we have morning and evening walks, a bicycle ride for ladies, an archery shoot at Centennial Park, a Tip-A-Cop fundraiser in Gardnerville to support Special Olympics, a meeting of the Carson City school board and more.

The conditions at Spooner Lake this week will be cold and wet so we are moving Thursday's hike "down to the valley" and will be hiking at Centennial Park on the Wild Horse Trail. This trail starts behind the ballfields at Centennial Park. Drive all the way to the back of ballfields on Heritage Way where the trail starts. Water and sturdy closed-toe shoes required. Hat, sunscreen and hiking poles recommended.
